Zoe Ng, Pleasanton, opposed a Costco on Johnson Drive in terms of having a big box retailer in a <br /> small city such as Pleasanton and their overshadowing many small businesses. <br /> Rebecca Estevez, Pleasanton, spoke regarding negative impacts and spoke in favoring of limiting retail <br /> uses to less than 50,000 square feet in the EDZ and urged Council to place the initiative on the <br /> November ballot. <br /> Monica Darling, Pleasanton, spoke in favor of Costco and did not believe it will have a negative impact <br /> on small businesses. She commented on Pleasanton needing a bigger tax base and felt that Costco <br /> will provide that. She urged Council to place the initiative on the November ballot. <br /> Vice Mayor Narum closed the public comment. <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Brown/Olson to accept the Registrar of Voters' certification of Initiative Limiting <br /> Retail Uses to Less than 50,000 square feet in the Johnson Drive EDZ. Motion passed by the following <br /> vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Narum, Olson, Pentin <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> Recused: Mayor Thorne <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Brown/Olson to not require a 9212 report. <br /> Vice Mayor Narum indicated she would like the City Attorney to generate a present an informational <br /> report to be presented during City Council's August 16, 2016 meeting. <br /> City Attorney Sodergren stated if Council decides, the report can be presented on August 16, 2016. <br /> The maker and second of the motion accepted a friendly amendment to direct the City Attorney's office <br /> to prepare and present an informational report on August 16, 2016. <br /> Motion passed by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Narum, Olson, Pentin <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> Recused: Mayor Thorne <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Pentin/Brown to adopt resolution submitting initiative to the voters plus <br /> undertaking related election matters. Motion passed by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Narum, Olson, Pentin <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> Recused: Mayor Thorne <br /> Councilmember Brown stated she would like to see a brief and succinct option.
