City Attorney Sodergren announced that the proposed deadlines for the direct arguments are August <br /> 18th, and rebuttals are due August 25th. <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Olsen/Pentin to adopt August 18, 2016, as the deadline for direct arguments <br /> and August 25, 2016, for the rebuttal. Motion passed by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Narum, Olson, Pentin <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> Recused: Mayor Thorne <br /> Councilmember Olson commented on the need for an Economic Development Zone. <br /> City Attorney Sodergren noted there are two options for Council including recycling the work that has <br /> been done, adding the 50,000 square foot limitation in place of the large scale/club retail identified in <br /> the EDZ and the EIR, or disband the entire EDZ effort and revert back to what the zoning is today. <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Pentin/Narum to direct staff to place other options on pause, until after the <br /> election. Motion passed by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Narum, Olson, Pentin <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> Recused: Mayor Thorne <br /> City Attorney Sodergren addressed Attachment 3 and Attachment 6 and stated that staff will conform <br /> those two resolutions to the motions as stated above. <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Pentin/Olson to waive full reading and adopt Resolution No. 16-880 ordering <br /> the submission to the qualified electors of the City of Pleasanton a measure relating the "an ordinance <br /> proposing to amend the City of Pleasanton General Plan to prohibit retail uses of 50,000 square feet or <br /> greater in the Johnson Drive Economic Development Zone" at the Consolidated General Municipal <br /> Election to be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016; and Resolution No. 16-881 setting priorities for <br /> filing written arguments regarding an initiative measure and directing the City Attorney to prepare an <br /> impartial analysis. Motion passed by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Brown, Narum, Olson, Pentin <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> Recused: Mayor Thorne <br /> Councilmember Brown reported she likes Costco, but noted there are a lot of details and facts that an <br /> informed voter must review. She stated she trusts Pleasanton voters to make the best decision for the <br /> City. <br /> Mayor Thorne returned to the Chambers and took his place on the dais and reported that the stock that <br /> he owns' is a managed retirement account. He stated that he plans to sell his stock and direct his <br /> accountant not to buy anymore Costco stock.
