Alternative Two
This alternative is shown on Attachment 3. It locates the tennis courts in the area between
the two volleyball courts. Although this alternative also removes a large open grass area,
it may be more appealing to those that voiced concerns about the impact to the grass
area near the play equipment.
A variation of this alternative would relocate the existing volleyball courts to a different
location. While this variation would add cost, it would eliminate all of the negatives
identified below relating to conflicts between tennis court and volleyball courts. Possible
new locations for the volleyball courts are shown in red on Attachment 3.
PROS CONS
• limited demolition • requires significant fill/earthwork
• limited new concrete pathways required • would add significant design costs
• no tree removal required • removes approximately 1/2 acre of open
grass
• allows grass area near play area to be • location separated from other courts
retained
• would be costly to run lighting out to the
area
• splits the volleyball courts
• creates safety issues for tennis courts
related to sand blowing on courts
• eliminates area currently used for grass
volleyball
• creates conflicts between volleyball and
tennis users
• would delay construction for a minimum
of six months
