Current Project as Designed and Bid
The projects currently designed and bid is shown on Attachment 1. This is the location
that was identified in the 1985 Tennis and Community Park Master Plan. This location
works well with the existing park sidewalks, park storm drainage facilities, and electric
power for the court lighting.
PROS CONS
• consistent with the approved location in • divides picnic and playground from a
the master plan large turf area
• ability to utilize existing electrical line to • requires the removal of 4 trees, 3 of which
light basketball courts are heritage trees
• tennis courts shielded from neighborhood • removes approximately 1/2 acre of grass
by existing trees
• most cost effective option at this time
• least amount of delay to project
• limited demolition
• limited new pathways
• close proximity to other courts
Alternative One
The alternative shown on Attachment 2 leaves the two courts in the same general location
as in the current plans, but pushes the courts approximately 75-feet to the northeast. This
alternative requires a sidewalk to be removed and relocated but saves a large portion of
the grass area that the neighborhood indicated is very important.
PROS CONS
• consistent with the approved location in • requires demolition and construction of
the master plan additional pathways
• ability to utilize existing electrical line to • requires the removal of 6 trees, 1 of which
light basketball courts is a heritage tree
• limited demolition • would add significant design costs
• tennis courts shielded from neighborhood • would delay construction for a minimum
by existing trees of 6 months
• close proximity to other courts • removes approximately 1/2 acre of grass
• existing storm drainage system requires
minimal modification
• allows direct connection between grass
and playground/picnic area
