Alternative Three
This alternative is shown as on Attachment 4. It locates the tennis courts closer to the
intersection of Hopyard and Valley Avenue. Although this appears to be a lesser used
location in the park, it requires significant grading, removal of many trees, and storm
drainage modification.
PROS CONS
• tennis courts will be far from • requires very significant grading and
neighborhood housing earthwork
• tennis courts shielded from neighborhood • requires demolition and construction of
by existing trees additional pathways
• allows grass area near play area to be • requires the removal of approximately 33
retained trees, of which 26 are heritage
• close proximity to other courts • blocks the view into the park from the
corner of Valley/Hopyard
• would delay construction for a minimum
of 6 months
• would be costly to run new power out to
these courts
• would add significant design costs
Schedule Impacts of Choosing an Alternative Location
The schedule for the construction of two tennis courts in the Park and Community Center
Master Plan location had the work starting on July 25 and complete by October 31. As
stated earlier in this report, the suspension of work and the potential temperature issues
may allow the work to be completed this year, or it may delay completion to the spring of
next year. If City Council chooses an alternative location staff will immediately begin
preparing construction documents, with the goal of bidding the revised project by the fall
of this year. Under this scenario work could start late in the year or early next year with
completion of the courts by late spring/early summer 2017.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
4)44 .......9(
itil\-
Stephen 'r atrick Tina Olson Brian Dolan
Director of ngineering Director of Finance Assistant City Manager
Attachments:
1.
