DISCUSSION <br />Having earned a B.A. from U.C. Berkeley and a J.D. from the University of Santa Clara <br />School of Law, Dan Sodergren is well qualified to serve as the Pleasanton City <br />Attorney. In addition to his academic background, Dan has nearly thirty years of legal <br />experience, most of which has been in local government. Most recently, Dan served as <br />the City Attorney for the City of Tracy where he worked for the past 11 years. Prior to <br />joining the City of Tracy, Dan served as City Attorney and Assistant City Attorney for the <br />City of Livermore and as Special Counsel for the cities of Palo Alto and Oakland. <br />Dan is well versed in municipal law with special expertise in land use and planning, <br />CEQA, elections, and utility issues. In his role as Pleasanton City Attorney, Dan will <br />provide advice and counsel to the City Council, the City Manager and staff. He will <br />oversee a legal department that oversees the City's contractual, regulatory, and <br />operational matters that typically include open meeting and public record laws, conflict <br />of interest, land use and environmental laws, claims and litigation, municipal elections, <br />employment and labor relations, code enforcement, and all other legal issues affecting <br />the City. <br />A copy of the Employment Contract between the City and Mr. Sodergren is attached. <br />Following appointment by the Council and the approval of the Employment Contract, <br />Mr. Sodergren will assume the responsibilities of City Attorney effective May 16, 2016. <br />u mitted by: <br />7rn ,erry T oe <br />Mayor <br />Fiscal Re iew: <br />Tina Olson <br />Director of Finance <br />Attachment: <br />1.
