Chairperson Jhanwar questioned whether Axis' new facility included dental services. Ms.
Compton advised that it did not because no State reimbursement was available when work
began on the new facility.
YMCA, (Behavioral Health Program and Community Outreach Program)-- Kenny Altenburg
thanked the Commission for their past support and provided updated information about YMCA
programs, noting that approximately 35 Pleasanton residents are receiving counseling support
from the YMCA Behavioral Health Program. Mr. Altenburg also provided details about the
Community Outreach Program and the YMCA partnership with many retail businesses that
allows them to collect items to distribute to those in need in the Tri- Valley.
Commissioner Wright discussed with Mr. Altenburg the number of people that were served in
the 300 -hours indicated in the counseling application. She also asked for confirmation that the
funds requested were for an Outreach Coordinator.
Ms. Reisner asked Mr. Altenberg how the Community Outreach Program differentiated from
services other providers were able to offer. He advised that the YMCA has found a niche that
allows them to provide household goods and supplies.
Eden I &R (2 -1 -1 Program) — Alison DeJung provided an update on the 2 -1 -1 program and the
services they provide. She advised that in 2015, a total of 716 calls were received from
Pleasanton residents. Commissioners were informed by Ms. DeJung that the $20,000
requested from the City of Pleasanton is based on a per capita amount and the amount has
not been increased in a number of years.
Legal Assistance for Seniors, (Free Legal Services for Low - Income Seniors) — Kate
Rosenbaum provided information about the legal services the agency provides for low- income
seniors.
Chairperson Jhanwar called for a 10 minute break at 7:30 p.m. The meeting resumed at
7:40 p.m.
Ms. Reisner reviewed with Commissioners the amount of funding available for the various
sources as outlined in the Staff Report and attachments. She noted that $100,000 was being
earmarked for the Axis Community Health dental services Capital project, $25,000 for the Tri-
Valley Haven telephone system replacement project, and $20,062 for the City of Pleasanton's
Section 108 Loan Repayment project.
Commissioners discussed funding for the Capital projects and noted that designating funds for
these projects would leave a total of $226,521 to be allocated, and that a total of $438,730 had
been requested. Commissioner Roby noted that the available funds represented about 50% of
the amount being requested and Commissioners should keep this in mind when making their
recommendations.
Human Services Commission
March 2, 2016
Page 6
