Tri- Valley Haven, (Telephone System Replacement) — Ann King provided information about <br />the Tri - Valley Haven's services and the phone system being a life -line for them being able to <br />provide services. Ms. King advised that their current phone system is failing. <br />Chairperson Jhanwar questioned whether the funds requested were for the entire phone <br />project. Ms. King advised that funding for a replacement phone system was also being <br />requested from the City of Livermore. She also advised that the new system would be <br />maintained in -house by the Tri - Valley Haven's IT person. <br />Commissioner Parekh discussed with Ms. King the number of crisis phone calls received. <br />Pleasanton Unified School District, (College Preparation and Readiness [CPRI Program) — <br />Brenda Montgomery advised that the school district is currently serving 120 students that are <br />not with their biological parents and is seeking funds to help provide and prepare them in the <br />College Preparation and Readiness Program. Ms. Montgomery would like to develop the <br />program to be able to provide assistance for 9th to 12th grade students by helping them with <br />college preparedness. <br />Commissioner Hayes questioned how this program compared to another program, and <br />Commissioner Roby asked if students in the program would only be for foster and kinship <br />students and whether they would be assigned to a counselor for the program. Ms. <br />Montgomery advised the program would only be for foster /kinship students and discussed the <br />difficulty of providing time with school counselors. She also informed Chairperson Jhanwar <br />that requested funding would be used to pay for counselor time. <br />Commissioner Wright confirmed that counselor services would be contracted with an outside <br />service and was informed by Ms. Montgomery that the number of students that could apply to <br />participate in the program would be approximately 60. <br />Commissioner Wright discussed with Ms. Hopkins funds from the Lower Income Housing Fund <br />that had been committed to PUSD pending an appropriate project being identified, but had not <br />been used. Ms. Hopkins provided information about the strict guidelines in place for the use of <br />these funds. <br />Commissioner Parikh was informed by Ms. Montgomery that students meeting with a <br />counselor would depend on specific guidelines and what criteria needed to be met. <br />Commissioner Clare discussed the possibility of outside counselors and parents of students <br />who have helped their own children with college prep and readiness items, being asked to <br />provide free services. <br />Commissioners Roby and Parekh discussed college and career consultants and curriculum <br />assistance available through the school district.
