Mr.Gerry Beaudin F E H R'' P E E R S
November 9, 2015
Opportunity areas for further investigation as part of Task 7
Task 3—Non-Motorized Access and Circulation
Fehr& Peers will use the City's existing GIS database to map the existing and proposed bicycle system
connecting to downtown Pleasanton, supplemented by data collected in Task 2. Gaps in the bicycle
system will be identified.
The existing pedestrian network in the downtown area will also be mapped, including the
identification of sidewalk gaps or missing pedestrian infrastructure, as well as the development of
five-minute parking walksheds, displaying the approximate distance one can walk within a five minute
period from various locations along Main Street, as well as the available parking supply within each
walk-shed.
Task 4—Wayfinding
Using the data collection and maps created as part of part of Tasks 2 and 3, Fehr&Peers will facilitate
a working session with City Staff and Studio L'Image, a graphic design studio, during which the
primary travel routes to the downtown parking areas will be identified and the approximate
placement of signs will be identified. Subsequent to the preliminary identification of sign type and
placement, we will conduct a walking audit to determine if there are existing sign posts to
accommodate wayfinding, or if additional poles need to be installed.
As part of this task, Studio L'Image will develop wayfinding sign concepts for presentation to City
staff. The concept designs will be revised based on City staff feedback with a final sign mock-up and
signage location plan prepared. Fehr & Peers will provide feedback on the draft design concepts for
conformity with MUTCD Guidelines. Studio L'Image will provide the art files that can be used for
fabrication; fabrication can be provided as an additional service, if necessary.
As currently envisioned this task can be completed subsequent to with Tasks 2 and 3 and
implemented prior to the completion of the remaining tasks. However, depending on the results of
Tasks 2 and 3, there may be other improvements, such as improved pedestrian connections and
parking lot restriping that would improve the overall efficacy of the wayfinding program.
Task 5—Policy and Program Review
Fehr & Peers will prepare a parking strategy memorandum that identifies the range of available
parking strategies that could be considered in the downtown Pleasanton Parking plan. This
information will be used to help inform parking policies and establish immediate, near-term and long-
