commented on the estimated number of Pleasanton residents to be served by each program
and the calculated cost per resident.
Commissioners discussed the requested amount of $727.15 from Gatehouse Academy and
Commissioner Nealy questioned whether it would be appropriate to consider allocating more
funds to this applicant. Commissioner Helm asked about possible partnering opportunities by
Gatehouse with other organizations as the program grows.
Ms. Crose commented on the goals and priorities of the Civic Arts Cultural Plan that includes a
Signature Event and improving the Amador Theater.
Commissioner Nealy suggested the Commission consider allocating more than the $5,057
indicated on Attachment 3 for the Cantabella Children's Chorus. She discussed the depth of
experience for the program and thought the allocation amount should be $6,000.
Commissioner Wheeler felt Cantabella could charge a fee to participants of the Chorus.
Commissioner Jellison agreed and thought it was something they should consider for the next
year.
Ms. Grose discussed with Mr. Schmitt the Commissioners average recommendation of $3,383
for The Making of an Opera program. He noted the amount would be marginal and
commented on the $2,500 that Livermore Valley Opera had returned from the previous funding
cycle. Mr. Schmitt also informed Commissioner Nealy that the program would be attended
mostly by seniors, and thought the funding recommendation of $3,383 would be marginal in
allowing Livermore Valley Opera to proceed with the program.
Commissioner Nealy felt the Livermore Valley Opera Student Outreach Program would reach
more students and should receive more funding.
Mr. Patrick commented on the funding returned by the Livermore Valley Operate, noting that it
was included in the $42,425.13 of funding available for the Commission to recommend
allocating.
Commissioners Jellison and Helm agreed that the Pacific Chamber Symphony School District
Assembly program was a strong program that reach a large number of students.
Commissioner Wheeler discussed with Mr. Kohl aspects of both the Assembly program and
the School Clinics provided. She felt the Commission should increase funding for the
Assembly program.
In discussing the Pleasanton Community Band, Commissioner Nealy felt the program was as
much for members of the band, as it was for providing a program to others. Commissioner
Jellison commented on how well received the band is and that it has become a part of the
community.
Commissioner Nealy discussed the importance of students being exposed to the arts and
receiving all forms of art by professionals.
Civic Arts Commission Minutes
March 2, 2015
Page 4
