Ms. Compton advised that Axis is seeking funding for a new program that would allow them to
provide more nursing hours. Specifically, Axis hopes to add another nurse who would work
with patients in making sure they receive and administer medications on time and as needed,
Receiving funding for an additional nurse to provide this service this would free-up physicians'
time. The funding would serve approximately 1,000 clients.
Chairperson Wright noted that score evaluations made by Commissioners through
ZoomGrants for this request had been relatively low but she thought it was a much needed
service. She asked what Axis would do if funding was not received. Ms. Compton advised
that $5,000 had been allocated from the City of Livermore and $7,500 from the City of Dublin
for the project, and that Axis would do whatever they could to provide service with the funding
they received. She advised Commissioner Hayes that Axis had looked for funding from any
other sources.
Gloria Gregory / CitvServe of the Tri-Valley— the Commission was advised that CityServe has
been operating for seven years and is a resource for coordinating services and providing
volunteers for non-profit groups to serve the neediest persons in the Tri-Valley area. The
agency also provides aid to the homeless and near-homeless as well as a variety of other
community resources. Funding requested would help pay for a Volunteer Coordinator who
would help the organization to expand community outreach and enhance its current
collaboration with other organizations. She noted that the agency is currently operated on an
all-volunteer basis.
Commissioner Rowland received confirmation that the funding requested would be used to pay
for office personnel and to assist families in need.
Chairperson Wright questioned whether receiving no funds from the City of Livermore would
affect the program. She was advised it would not affect the program and that $10,000 had
been awarded from the City of Dublin.
Gina Gourley, East Bay Innovations / Student Employment Transition (SET) — advised that
employment goals of students with developmental disabilities are not being met and SET is a
new program to help prepare them by providing training and information. The funds requested
would be used for staff and consultant expenses related to the program and job club, with
successful strategies being shared with school staff and parents/families looking to prepare
students for independence. Presentations at the events will be made by people with
disabilities and will provide information about successful employments, etc.
Chairperson Wright was advised that this would be a one-year project that EBI hopes, once
established, will be continued by the local school district. She was also advised that EBI
hopes that the Hancock bill will help make a difference.
Victoria Emmons / Leanne Morgan, Hope Hospice / Grief Support Center— advised that Hope
Hospice is celebrating 35-years of being able to provide service in Pleasanton. They
discussed the grieving process and the services and coping skills provided by Hope Hospice.
Human Services Commission
April 8, 2015
Page 3
