Changes in an employee's salary because of promotion or demotion establish a new salary anniversary <br /> date for that employee. Salary range adjustments for a classification will not establish a new salary <br /> anniversary date for employees serving in that classification. <br /> Salary Advancement Timetable <br /> Firefighter Step Ito Step 2 After 6 months of fulltime satisfactory service at Step 1 <br /> Firefighter Step 2 to Step 3 After 6 months of fulltime satisfactory service at Step 2 <br /> Firefighter Step 3 to Step 4 After 6 months of fulltime satisfactory service at Step 3 <br /> Firefighter Step 4 to Step 5 After 12 months of fulltime satisfactory service at Step 4 <br /> Firefighter Step 5 to Step 6 After 12 months of fulltime satisfactory service at Step 5 <br /> Fire Engineer Step 7 to Step 8 After 12 months of fulltime satisfactory service at Step 7 <br /> Fire Captain Step 9 to Step 10 After 12 months of fulltime satisfactory service at Step 9 <br /> 5.5 Salary Step When Salary Range Increases <br /> Whenever the monthly schedule of compensation for a class is revised, each incumbent in a position to <br /> which the revised schedule applies shall be entitled to the step in the revised range corresponding to the <br /> step held by him/her in the previous range. <br /> 5.6 Acting Engineer and Acting Officer Compensation <br /> A. When an employee is assigned to act in a classification with a higher salary range, that <br /> employee's acting rate of pay shall be established as follows: <br /> The pay rate for an employee, who has passed the promotional examination and is on an <br /> active eligible list for the "acting" assignment classification, will be the same as if the <br /> employee had been promoted. <br /> B. An employee who is serving in an acting assignment and who performs overtime work <br /> during the time worked in the acting assignment, will receive pay for such overtime work <br /> at a rate of one and one-half (1.5) times the compensation received for the acting <br /> assignment. <br /> 5.7 Salary Step After Promotion or Demotion <br /> When an employee is promoted from a position in one class to a position in a higher class, he/she shall <br /> receive the minimum rate for the higher class; provided, however, that such rate is at least five percent <br /> (5%) above his/her current wage rate. When an employee is demoted, whether such demotion is <br /> voluntary or otherwise, that employee's compensation shall be adjusted to the salary prescribed for the <br /> class to which he/she is demoted. The specific rate of pay within the range shall be determined by the <br /> City Manager, whose decision shall be final; provided, however, that the employee's rate of pay shall not <br /> be set at a lower rate than he/she would have received had he/she remained in the lower class. <br /> 6 <br />
