She asked that this be reconsidered, especially since the City of Pleasanton requires
residential fencing to be 6 foot.
Herb Ritter, as a past member of the Parks and Recreation Commission, he always wanted for
there to be more dog parks in the city, as well as soap in the Sports Park restrooms. While he
understands the comments made by members of the community, he believes the proposed
location for this dog park is great. He thanked the Commission and staff for spending the time
and looking for another dog park location and is looking forward to seeing the finished park.
Jack Balch commented on the history of why this dog park location was chosen and thinks it is
a good place; he also discussed why other locations were not selected. Mr. Balch expressed
his concerns about summer heat and lack of shade in the park until trees are developed. He
also commented on parking and felt the 12 parking spaces would be sufficient, especially since
additional parking could be added in the future along with the Park and Ride facility. Mr. Balch
discussed the dog park location to the Marilyn Murphy Kane trail and the Homewood
neighborhood.
Mollie Gollmick objected to Mr. Balch's comments regarding parking and felt overflow parking
for the dog park and the trail would go to the Meadowlark neighborhood.
Chairperson Kinzer closed the meeting for public comment at 7:57 p.m.
Commissioner Streng was advised by Mr. Bocian that the Park and Ride project was in the
final design stage, but has not yet gone forward for funding. Mr. Bocian also provided
information about alternative parking for the dog park site that is to be done. Commissioner
Streng confirmed that the Park and Ride would be available for use on weekends and at other
times.
Commissioner Wahl provided information about parking in the Val Vista park area and it being
something accepted within the community, especially since parks are a positive thing to have
in the neighborhood. She asked that consideration be given to the comments received
regarding the fence height and the dog-lick. Mr. Bocian confirmed the 5-foot separation
between the fence and the walkway and discussed standard specs for construction projects
that require drainage.
Commissioner Streng echoed Commissioner Wahl's concern on the fence height and trusted
the City's Traffic Department's recommendations concerning parking. He reiterated Mr.
Bocian's comments regarding Bernal property locations for a dog park, and felt this will be an
attractive amenity for the homeowners.
Commissioner Brown indicated she understood the concerns raised regarding parking and felt
additional parking should be considered.
Commissioner Hottle's comments included his concerns that having only 5-feet between the
dog park and the wild area is enough, and that a 5-foot high fence around the dog park would
be more appropriate.
Parks and Recreation Commission
December 11, 2014
Page 4
