• Adding several dog play structures.
• Planting of native trees and shrubs.
Commissioner Wahl discussed the use of engineered wood fiber in other dog parks and felt it
was important for it to be used in this park, even though it was more costly. She also
discussed the removal of a second shade structure that the Commission had recommended
and the time it would take for circular benches to receive shade from the trees around which
they are being placed. Mr. Tanaka felt it could be 4-5 years before shading would be provided.
Commissioner Wahl indicated she favored having dog waste receptacles in the park, and
suggested they be considered for all City of Pleasanton parks.
Commissioner Streng discussed with Mr. Bocian noise complaints that have been received
from neighbors of the Muirwood Dog Park. Mr. Bocian advised that none had been received
and on checking with other communities staff had been advised there were no issues.
Commissioner Streng received confirmation from Mr. Tanaka that the overall size of the dog
park was the same as had been reviewed by the Commission in October 2014.
Commissioner Hott le indicated he liked the conceptual plan and his initial concerns about
having a dog park near the wild life area had been addressed with relocation of the park and
the berm. He noted that the Commission is open to meeting concerns of the
community, but is confident the dog park will be a great addition to the City of Pleasanton.
Chairperson Kinzer was happy to see that the Commission's concerns had been addressed,
especially that of the park location. He asked Mr. Bocian to provide information on how this
location was chosen. Chairperson Kinzer also discussed traffic mitigations and was advised
by Mr. Bocian that the city's traffic personnel believe there will be minimal impact. He also
provided information on planned traffic improvements being made in the area of the dog park.
Chairperson Kinzer opened the meeting for public comment at 7:45 p.m.
Gregor)/ Gollmick commented on: 1) complaints received from three separate neighborhoods
regarding this dog park proposal and suggested a location be found where no complaints will
be received; 2) suggested a location across from the County Fair on Bemal Avenue be
considered as a good dog park location; 3) the parking area will fill and overflow as the park
becomes better known; 4) didn't think adding additional trees would help with noise issues;
and 5) adjusting traffic lights, etc. will not help with issues raised by neighbors.
Cele Gutierrez commented on: 1) concerned about the proposal for only one dog-lick in the All
Dog area, she felt it was insufficient and the area could become muddy; and 2) the 4' height of
the fence was not enough to contain large dogs and needed to be higher to be a good barrier.
Parks and Recreation Commission
December 11, 2014
Page 3
