BACKGROUND
When the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department receives new fire apparatus, the
oldest, most worn of the fleet is surplused. This surplused apparatus has typically 25 to
30 years of service life, and is no longer financially feasible to maintain. Due to the
flood of used apparatus on the market, these units usually sell for the price of scrap.
Pleasanton currently has two fire engines have virtually no value in the United States,
they are highly desired by our sister city in Mexico, Tulancingo. These engines, while
past their useful and cost effective service life, are highly desired by the Tulancingo Fire
Department, and would be newer and more serviceable than about 50% or their current
fire apparatus.
The Pleasanton Downtown Rotary Club and the Tulancingo Sister City organization
have agreed to work together to fund the transport of these engines to Mexico, and get
them to our sister city.
DISCUSSION
This declaration of surplus equipment will save the City money in maintenance costs and
greatly enhance the apparatus inventory of the Tulancingo, Mexico Fire Department.
S elk- itted by: / Fiscal Review:
, Approve by:
0// >, '
Ja Migu- Emily E.
