Karen Diaz
Subject: FW: Historic Preservation Meeting P13-2446, P13-2447 and P13-2448
From: Sylvia Desin [ ; L MATERIAL
Sent: Monday, December 16, 2013 7:43 PM _, _ lets city Council
To: Steve Otto ; . ri
Subject: Historic Preservation Meeting P13-2446, P13-2447 and P13-2448 t:, ';f . b.i hU l Packet
Planning
Dear Mr. Otto and the Pleasanton PI a g Commission:
I am so sorry to be unable to attend Tuesday's meeting. I very much wanted to be there, but I have a
family medical issue that takes precedence.
As the owner of an "historic" home in downtown Pleasanton (624 Division Street), I feel that I need to
weigh in on two particular issues.
1) The new "demolition" definition. This will make it very difficult for the owners of historic properties
to make improvements. I agree with Peter MacDonald's proposal to add the following clarifying
clause "It shall not be considered a "demolition" when portions of the façade are modified, expanded,
removed or reconstructed with the exterior construction substantially matching the original in material,
composition, design, color, texture, and shape." I also agree with his recommendation to add the
following goal to the guidelines "5. To encourage investment in rehabilitating historic buildings by
allowing adaptive re-use, replication, additions, and reconstruction as needed to keep historic
resources active and functional."
If the City is going to impose "historic resource" designation on various properties, it will get more
rehabilitation if it makes it easy for property owners to update their properties, while maintaining the
historic look.
2) In addition, I would like to insist that the Historic Resource Study come back to City Council for
review and approval. The final decision on these issues needs to be that of the Council.
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Sylvia Mayhew Desin
Alain Pinel Realtors
925.413.1912
vvyvvv.sylviadcsin.com
License # 01280640
Click here to report this email as spam.
i
