Karen Diaz
Subject: FW: Historic Preservation Task Force SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provided to the City Council
From: Emilie After Distribution of Packet
Sent: Tuesday, December 17, 2013 5:52 PM
To: Steve Otto; Mayor and City Council Pate
Subject: Re: Historic Preservation Task Force
Hello Mayor Thorne and Council,
I wish I could be at the council meeting tonight, but cannot attend due a conflict with my job. I was proud to serve on the
Historic Preservation Task Force. I strongly urge you to approve the amendments to the General Plan, the DTSP, and
municipal code recommended by Planning Staff and the Task Force. From the beginning of the process I understood that
staff and task force members were strongly committed to developing guidelines that would preserve our city's charm and
unique character and quell the loss of our historic residences. I also felt we were all strongly committed to making the
process for homeowners and developers streamlined and more uniform. One of the questions that was raised by the
public in meetings was who is going to make the determinations about style and what is allowed. The Pleasanton Historic
Context Statement provides additional expertise and guidance for homeowners and staff. The use of story poles and staff
flowcharts will be very helpful tools going forward. Another subject discussed at almost every meeting was building scale,
and FARs. This is an issue of property rights for all concerned that has caused conflict between developers and residents
of our downtown neighborhoods. While it is not possible to predict exactly what the outcomes of the new guidelines will
be, I think the proposals are an excellent step in the right direction.
Sincerely,
Emilie Cruzan
•
