Mr. Thorne noted that the issue of another soccer field could possibly come up. He
would like it to remain in the specific plan, but did not think it was necessary to include on the
illustrative map.
Mayor Hosterman commented on how to assure the tennis supporters that it will be
included, while also receiving a-mails from other sport groups. She does not want them to be
feeling left out of the process. She asked if there was some alternative language that could be
used to give them a sense that tennis courts can be on the property.
Mr. Brozosky commented that the existing language ensures that this can be included.
Mr. Fialho stated that one option could be in utilizing the voter information text; a variety
of uses can be listed.
Mr. Sullivan commented that many groups have come to the Council and the requests
have been included; he doesn't understand why the tennis groups are not being responded to in
the same manner; he would like an equal response.
Mr. Brozosky commented that during the full task force, tennis was not brought up very
often; now it is being discussed because it came in later. Not every stakeholder is happy with
the outcome, but have been willing to compromise.
Mr. Thorne stated that the minutes will reflect that the Council supports the placement of
tennis courts on the property.
Ms. McGovern commented that if tennis courts are to be placed in the park„ she would
like to see them in the community park area. She wants to protect the Grand Meadow and
wants to be careful about not taking away land for additional uses.
Ms. McGovern noted that the Staples Ranch property could potentially provide tennis
cowls on that park. She likes to have tennis courts available throughout the community and
neighborhoods.
Mr. Fialho noted that as a possibility, amongst others. The site has not been master
planned yet.
Ms. McGovern asked if outdoor basketball courts were previously included in the plan.
Mr. Rasmussen reported that basketball courts are included north of the youth center
parking lot as seen on the illustrative map. He clarified that they are not in the Community Park
plan.
Mr. Fialho emphasized that the illustrative plan will be part of the information that will be
available to the voters for review.
Ms. McGovern asked if there was an area near the community park where tennis courts
could be included.
Mr. Rasmussen commented that there would not be enough room for six courts, the only
option would be to remove the storm water basin and replace/redesign with a tennis courts.
Pleasanton City Council 10 05/16/06
Minutes
