Bellecci & Associates
June 4,2013
VIA E-MAIL
Mr.William Harris,ASLA
Principal
Harris Design
Re: Bernal Community Park Phase 2
Additional Services Request
1. Bernal Avenue Drainage Channel Options
2. Oak Woodland Area+Pond Design
3. Oak Woodland Water Service
4. Value Engineering Services
5. Gas Line
Dear Bill,
We are writing to request additional budget for the Bernal Community Park Phase 2 project. Please see below the four
categories of changes to the project design:
1. Bernal Avenue Drainage Channel Options
Our additional services request is for design services caused by offsite drainage impacts to Bernal Park from
Bernal Avenue drainage channel, which are not included in our original Agreement with the City. The issues
related to the Bernal Avenue drainage channel are summarized in our letter dated January 23,2013.
Current Design Direction from City
In the attached letter Bellecci summarized the drainage conditions and provided various optional services for
handling of the Bernal Avenue drainage channel. Per meetings with City staff in January 2013 we have
received direction for handling the under capacity ditch overflow. Listed below is ou-understanding of the
current design direction requested by the City:
• Provide a earthen berm separating Fields 2&3 from Bernal Avenue drainage channel.
• Using the drainage study dated Sept 25,2006, provide an overflow release channel for Bernal Avenue
drainage channel, which redirects 10-year storm event overflow away from Fields 2&3.
• Overflow ditch will be permitted to discharge to the east, towards the Fairgrounds Ditch which traverses
along the east edge of Bernal Community Park.
• The detailing of the overflow solution will avoid permitting impacts which would delay the project.
Scope of Work for Bellecci
1. Review calculations from Sept 25, 2006 report to size overflow channel. The calculations for the overflow
channel will be a one-page technical memo; including summary paragraph and calculations for channel
sizing and pipe sizing.
2. Prepare concept plan for review by City engineering department. Concept plan will be handled as a
package separate from the overall Park Plans.
3. Add the proposed improvements to the 65%,95%and 100%submittals. Proposed improvements for
overflow diversion channel to the East include:a manhole connections, extensicn pipe, channel alignment
and cross section across the open field to the southeast.
CONCORD PLEASANTON BRENTWOOD
2290 Diamond Blvd.Suite 100 6601 Koll Center Parkway,Suite 240 181 Sand Creek Road,Ste.H
Concord,CA 94520-5744 Pleasanton,CA 94566-3127 Brentwood,CA 94513-2213 Civil Engineering Land Surveying
Tel.925.685.4569 Tel.925.681.4885 925.681.4881
