From these workshops students and teachers will gain the knowledge to <br /> implement a doable compost program that successfully supports the school's Edible Garden. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-95 Christensen Middle School,No More Plastic Spoons,Livermore,East County,$105.97— <br /> Funds from this grant will be used to eliminate plastic silverware at the Christensen Middle School and replace it with <br /> reusable stainless steel silverware. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-96 Amador Valley High School,Virtual Dissections Eliminate Waste,Pleasanton,East County, <br /> $1,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to purchase software for virtual animal dissections to be used each year in <br /> place of actual animal dissections.By using this software the school will eliminate the waste of each of the dissected <br /> animals,the gloves,paper towels and other items used in each dissection. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-97 Amelia Earhart Elementary School,Amelia Earhart Community"Kinder-Garden", <br /> Alameda,West County,$996.99-Funds from this grant will be used to structure monthly lessons for parent facilitators <br /> and teachers to engage staff and parents in partnering to develop a garden program geared toward educating <br /> kindergarteners in the area of environmental sustainability. This project will bring awareness to the role of all living <br /> things and promote the responsibility that each person has to honor and sustain life,including plants,animals and insects. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-98 Castlemont High School,Castlemont Recycle Program,Oakland,West County,$1,000.00— <br /> Students at Castlemont will be using these funds to purchase recycle bins,setting up,running and maintaining the first <br /> school wide recycling program on campus. Students from(3) SUDA(Sustainable Urban Design Academy)English <br /> classes will be responsible for setting up,collecting and sorting recycling from all classrooms and main offices on <br /> campus. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-99 Washington Elementary School,Bee Green: Washington Elementary's Waste Diversion <br /> Initiative,Berkeley,West County,$988.00-Grant funds will be used to purchase recycling bins and materials to create <br /> informational signage for inside and outside the buildings to help students recycle items correctly. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-100 John Muir Elementary School,Compost to Chickens,San Leandro,West County,$860.00— <br /> Grant funds will be used to purchase pails to enhance the schools food scrap program along with a bio-pod composter that <br /> will accommodate meat food scraps and turn them into high protein larvae for chicken feed. Large wood signs will also <br /> be made to assist students with proper sorting. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-101 Jessica Jane Robinson,Reduction of Methane Gas Emission Recycle and Compost 101 <br /> Presentations,Alameda,West County,$1,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to purchase equipment needed to <br /> perform further outreach and make presentations about the importance and recycling and composting,how to maximize <br /> waste reduction and reduce methane gas emissions. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-102 Jefferson Elementary School PTA,Jefferson Elementary Green School Initiative,Berkeley, <br /> West County,$830.00-Funds from this grant will be used to purchase recycling bins,signage material,and green waste <br /> composters to increase recycling in the cafeteria and other areas of the school. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-103 Food Shift,Food Shift,Oakland,West County,$1,000.00-Grant funds will be used for Earth <br /> Island Institute/Food Shift to launch a food waste awareness and action campaign in November of 2012. Food Shift will <br /> educate communities and engage businesses around the economic,social and environmental impacts of food waste and <br /> will provide tangible tips,tools and resources to inspire food related behavior changes. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-104 Martin Luther King Middle School,Composting Bins for Classroom,Berkeley,West <br /> County,$1,000.00-Funds from this grant will be used to purchase bins to be used in individual classrooms to collect <br /> food waste created by the Universal Breakfast program which currently creates waste going to the landfill. <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-105 Spirit of the Sea,Marine Debris Education Modules, Emeryville,West County,$1,000.00— <br /> Funds from this grant will be used to launch a set of hands on activity modules that teach awareness of a situation(debris, <br /> pollution,waste),understanding of cause and effect(watersheds,human involvement)and skills for contributing to <br /> community discourse(scientific,methodology,modeling behavior change). <br /> Mini-Grant#: 12-106 De Colores Head Start,Vermicomposting Indoor Composting with red wigglers,Oakland, <br /> West County,$852.81-Red Worms is a controlled process of decomposition used to transform organic material such as <br /> kitchen scraps,yard wastes and paper products into compost. Funds from this grant will be used to purchase a compost <br /> tumbler and other items used to improve the schools composting setup. <br />
