BACKGROUND The project consists of the application of a slurry seal coating to approximately 1,700,000 square feet of pavement on the following fourteen (14) City streets with latex emulsified asphalt utilizing Type II black volcanic aggregate. Slurry sealing is used to extend the life of existing street pavements. Below is a list of the roadway locations scheduled for slurry seal. There were a total of four bids received, ranging between the low bid amount of $570,369.25, from American Asphalt Repair and Resurfacing Co., Inc., to $841,054.70. The low bid is approximately 3.6% higher than the engineer's estimate of $550,000 (see attached Bid Summary). Past work performed by American Asphalt Repair and Resurfacing Co., Inc. was verified to be satisfactory. Therefore, staff recommends award of the construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, American Asphalt Repair and Resurfacing Co., Inc. Page 2 of 3
