IN THE AMOUNT OF $570,369.25 FOR THE <br /> ANNUAL SLURRY SEALING OF VARIOUS CITY STREETS PROJECT, <br /> CIP NO. 115004 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Bids have been received for the project and staff is recommending award of the <br /> construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, American Asphalt Repair and <br /> Resurfacing Co., Inc. in the amount of $570,369.25 for the Annual Slurry Sealing of <br /> Various Streets project, Capital Improvement Program (CIP) No. 115004. Slurry <br /> sealing will prolong the service life of the existing pavement by the application of a thin <br /> coat of asphalt/aggregate slurry to the pavement surface. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve plans and specifications for this project. <br /> 2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract for the project to <br /> American Asphalt Repair and Resurfacing Co., Inc. of Hayward, California, for a <br /> low bid amount of $570,369.25. <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the project contract. <br /> 4. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute <br /> contract change order(s) for a contingency amount not-to-exceed $ 57,291 <br /> (approximately 10% of the contract) for necessary related subject work. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> This project is part of the City's on-going preventative maintenance efforts to prolong the <br /> service life of the existing street pavement. These projects are expected to help control <br /> long-term maintenance costs. <br /> Funding for this project includes allocations of $160,985 from the fiscal year 2009-10 <br /> and CIP and $472,135 from the fiscal year 2011-12 CIP. In addition, $130,950 of <br /> Bicycle Transportation Account grant funds are available for bicycle lane striping. <br />
