Attachment 5 THE CITY OF Youth 1 11 Commission Minutes �L£�S�4NTONo IaC Gingerbread Preschool, 4333 Black Avenue March 14, 2012 - 6:00 p.m. CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Cody Ellgas called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited. Roll Call Commissioners Present: Lauren Ancora, Phoebe Brown, Aditi Jhanwar, Judy Lu, Shannon Malindzak, Kara Matsune, Catherine Mayo, Emma Rigl, Erica Utikal, and Chairperson Cody Ellgas. (Diane Hadley and Kaitlyn Mallie arrived after Roll Call) Commissioners Absent: Libby Kolar. Staff Present: Becky Hopkins, Recreation Supervisor; Jeff Bretzing, Police Lieutenant; and Edith Caponigro, Recording Secretary. MATTERS BEFORE THE COMMISSION 4. Recommendation to Allocate Community Grant Funds for Fiscal Year 2012/13 Ms. Hopkins reviewed with the Commission the Community Grants Program and advised that a total of six (6) applications were received for funding in the Youth Category. She advised that a synopsis of the projects and their funding requests was included in the agenda report, and the Commission should consider these requests and after receiving presentations from the agencies, should make funding allocations. The Commission was advised that a total of $40,000 had been allocated in the FY 2012/2013 General Fund Budget, and an additional $3,243 in unspent funds from FY 2011/2012 Budget for the Youth Category of the Community Grant Program. Chairperson Ellgas opened the meeting for presentations from agency representatives. Tri-Valley Haven, Anti-Bullying Project — Funds Requested: $7,500 — The Commission was informed that this project would go hand-in-hand with other programs. Recent studies indicate there is a link between bullying and domestic violence. Tri-Valley Haven hopes to have approximately 60 Pleasanton students participate in a survey for this project.
