Box 520 Pleasanton, CA 94566 Reference: City Project Number CA-1205 Grant Award Amount: $4000 Dear Kathleen: The Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council would like to request that funds originally allocated for The Poetry Prose&Arts Festival CA-1205 be reallocated to the projects as specified later in this document. Background and Rationale In collaboration with the City during the past ten years, PCAC has assumed much of the role of staging the Poetry, Prose&Arts Festival. Last year, PCAC moved the festival downtown and added--in partnership with PAL--the "linked art"display in local businesses and a visual arts seminar and evening banquet at the Veterans Hall. A key part of the city's collaboration with the festival involved funding and staffing in terms of public relations and coordination. Currently, given the understandable and necessary budget cuts, the city has not been able to provide the staffing as it has in the past. This, along with other factors, has led PCAC to re-evaluate what the festival should look like and how it can best serve the community. Future Vision for The Poetry Prose& Arts Festival PCAC would like to expand the festival to include a representation of more of the Arts, as well as working collaboratively with other Pleasanton Arts organizations and ideally, the Pleasanton Downtown Association. Our vision is that the festival would be a signature event for Pleasanton, celebrating all the Arts,with both free and fee-based events that would generate excitement for the Arts,as well as generate traffic and excitement for Pleasanton businesses (similar to the Santa Barbara Chalk Art Festival). The festival would also provide a venue for Arts organizations to make themselves known and showcase their work. Since this festival would be on a much larger scale, PCAC will need more to time to collaborate with the other arts organizations, scout out other Arts Festivals,and identify the paid talent. P.O.
