BACKGROUND
At its May 3, 2011 meeting, the City Council approved the Civic Arts, Youth and Human
Services Commissions funding recommendations for the FY 2011/12 Community Grant
and Housing and Human Services Grant Programs. The Pleasanton Cultural Arts
Council's (PCAC) "11th Annual Poetry Prose & Arts Festival" application was one of the
approved grants for $4,000.
At the Civic Arts Commission's February 5, 2012 meeting, the Commission discussed
PCAC's request to consider amending its Community Grant Recipient Agreement and
use the awarded $4,000 grant funds allocated to its "11th Annual Poetry Prose & Arts
Festival," to develop a new event entitled "Farmer's Market Art Encounter" At its
meeting, the Civic Arts Commission approved the reallocation of the $4,000 as follows:
$2,740 towards the "Farmer's Market Art Encounter" event and requested that the
remaining $1,260 be carried over to the FY 2012/13 Community Grant Program in the
Civic Arts Category.
When submitting its Midterm Report, PCAC indicated that it would like to negotiate with
City staff to enlarge the "Annual Poetry Prose Arts & Festival" and to transform it into a
bi-annual festival in Downtown Pleasanton, with the literary component continuing at the
Firehouse Arts Center.
Staff met with PCAC representatives on Friday, January 13, 2012, and discussed
options for the "Annual Poetry Prose & Arts Festival" and suggestions for using the FY
2011/12 PCAC grant funds, which includes postponing this year's `Annual Poetry Prose
& Arts Festival" and reallocating a portion of the $4,000 grant funds to a new "Farmers
Market Art Encounter"event.
Staff recommended that PCAC submit a request to the Civic Arts Commission for its
consideration of amending PCAC's FY 2011/12 Community Grant funds. (Attachment 1)
DISCUSSION
Should the City Council not approve the Civic Arts Commission recommendation to
amend the agreement, it is suggested that PCAC's total grant allocation of $4,000 be
carried over to the FY 2012/13 Community Grant Program in the Civic Arts Category.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
c.- ( — r/ tcfr-- --
Susan Andrade-Wax Emily Wagner Nelson Fialho
Director of Community Services Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
