Proposed Alternate Uses for the FY 2011/2012 Grant Funding
Originally, the PCAC requested$5,000 in grant funding for"the Poetry Prose &Arts
Festival"and$4,500 for the"Arts in the Schools"projects. The Civic Arts Commission
awarded $ 4,000 in grant funding for the"Poetry, Prose&Arts Festival"and $3,000 in
grant funding for the "Arts in the Schools"project. Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council is
requesting that the Civic Arts Commission consider reallocating $1,260 to the existing
"Arts in the Schools" grant and $2,740 to the new"Farmer's Market Art Encounter"
project.
Farmer's Market Art Encounter
Objective
• Provide an opportunity for families and people of all ages to interact with all the
different arts disciplines on a regular basis
• Provide a venue for the various arts organizations in Pleasanton to market and
raise awareness about their organization
• Provide an additional venue to promote scheduled performances, programs and
gallery shows that are featured at the Firehouse Arts Center
Program Description
• An"Arts Booth"will be set up during the same time of the Farmer's Market,
adjacent to the TVAR area on the grass.
• The booth will feature a different Arts' organization each time, as well as an
interactive art activity. The groups will NOT be performing, so they will not
compete with the performers at the Farmer's Market. n Examples of this type of
activity include:
o A group like Cantabella Children's Chorus might feature an activity called
"Hit the Note". People would throw a foam dart to determine what note
they would need to hit, i.e. sing, then the participant would sing the note
and perhaps get a small candy, etc.; or
o Creatures of Impulse could have suggested ideas that people need to act
out; or
o PCAC would sponsor a giant paint by numbers poster that families and
individuals can paint on and the poster could later be put on display. The
key would be that the booth would provide active interactions with the arts
vs. passive.
• The booth will also feature written promotional material from the various arts
organizations, as well as the Firehouse Art Center.
• Ideally, there will be a monitor that will run a continuous loop of videos for the
upcoming performances at the Firehouse Arts Center.
• The"Arts Booth"will be featured at the Farmer's Market at least once a month
on Saturdays, from March through October/November and would be coordinated
through PCAC.
