Project-Grant#: 11-39 Earth Team,Waste Action Project,Berkeley,West County,$20,000.00-The goals of the <br /> Waste Action Project are to: 1)increase awareness on campus and in the surrounding community about the importance of <br /> natural resource conservation and the 4R's 2)inspire students to take action and increase students leadership skills by <br /> organizing waste action activities on their campus,and 3)improve waste-reduction and recycling habits and capabilities <br /> on campus that result in a cleaner campus,potentially lower waste disposal costs,and environmental stewardship. <br /> Project-Grant#: 11-40 Planting Justice,SLWRP at Mandela High School,Oakland,West County,$10,880.00- <br /> The goal of Planting Justice's collaboration with the Service Learning Waste Reduction Program at Mandela High School <br /> is to be an educational component for students to learn about: 1)sustainable ways to reduce and reuse waste;2)how to use <br /> this waste to grow food safely and productively in urban settings; 3)the importance of adequate nutrition and how to get <br /> it,and 4)food justice and food security issues in the Bay Area.The outcome objective of the program is for students to be <br /> empowered to manage their waste and grow their own food at school and with their family home,and to provide jobs for <br /> participant students to build permaculture gardens for others in their community in order to increase food security and <br /> sustainable waste management practices in the Bay Area. <br /> Project-Grant#: 11-41Habitat for Humanity—East Bay,Job Training for Ex-Offenders,Oakland,West County, <br /> $10,000.00-The goal of this program will be to provide ex-offenders with job training and education and transform <br /> volunteer experience into a paid job experience. This job experience can then be added to their resume and used as a <br /> professional reference. Habitat for Humanity—East Bay believes this will be a great asset for our former volunteers as <br /> well as assisting Habitat ReStore with reliable employees. <br /> Project-Grant#: 11-42 PUEBLO,Green Pioneers Waste Reduction and Urban Sustainability Project,Oakland, <br /> West County,$13,800.00-Funds from this grant will be used to: 1)Provide stipend leadership opportunities and green <br /> jobs training for high school students in the Green Pioneers Internship Program 2)Support urban sustainability and waste <br /> reduction projects of Green Pioneers Interns and environmental science students by maintaining the outdoor classroom <br /> space of the Castlemont Community Garden 3)Expand waste reduction systems and education at all four Castlemont High <br /> Schools and neighboring middle schools;and 4)Provide healthy and affordable fresh fruit,vegetables,and eggs to <br /> students and their families living in an urban food desert through a student run Farm Stand. <br /> Project-Grant#: 11-43 City of Dublin,Dublin 4R Challenge,Dublin,East County,$18,100.00— Funds from this <br /> grant will be used to promote greater participation in existing recycling programs,phase in food scrap diversion to <br /> schools,educate and promote enhanced program knowledge and diversion,include rewards/incentives and subsidies for <br /> diversion,and communication and sharing of best practices. <br /> Project-Grant#: 11-44 San Francisco Clean City Coalition,SF Clean City Wood Enterprise Grant,San Francisco, <br /> West County,$30,000.00—Grant funds will be used to: 1)Divert and refurbish 50 tons of wood furniture from the <br /> landfill annually; 2) Repair and reuse of 100+tons of wood pallets annually; 3)Create green job training opportunities; <br /> 4)Employ low-income San Franciscans in green skills training and job opportunities and 5)Develop a financially self- <br /> sustaining enterprise business model for wood refurbishing and repair. <br /> The total 2011 Expenditure Plan budget of$150,000 for Project-grants was approved by the Board along with the <br /> option to carry over all unexpended funds from previous grant years and expend if necessary. A total of <br /> $140,280.00 in Project-grants were awarded. <br /> Multi-Year Grants <br /> The Education Advisory Board awarded 1 Multi-Year grant for the following project: <br /> Alameda Unified School District,09-26(3"1 and final year)Alameda Green Schools Challenge,Alameda,West <br /> County,$42,500.00-The Alameda Unified School District,with the support of the Alameda Schools Go Green parent- <br /> teacher-principal-district-staff group and the Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda,has launched the Alameda <br /> Green Schools Challenge. The initiative aims to: implement comprehensive 4Rs curriculum and infrastructure at all <br /> AUSD school sites and district facilities,reduce greenhouse gas emissions district-wide through waste prevention, <br /> recycling and composting,energy efficiency,community education,promote cultural change among our students,parents, <br /> teachers,maintenance staff,and administrators. <br /> The total 2011 Expenditure Plan budget of$42,500 for Multi-Year grants was approved by the Board along with <br /> the option to carry over all unexpended funds from previous grant years and expend if necessary. A total of <br /> $42,500 in Multi-year grants were awarded. <br />
