<br /> Funds from this grant will be used to introduce Greenleaf Elementary School to composting,expand the school garden to
<br /> serve not only students but the entire community,reduce the amount of waste that the school produces and to educate the
<br /> staff and students about the value of learning how to turn waste into rich soil.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 11-52 H.Haight Elementary Go Green Committee,Reusable party ware,Alameda,West County,
<br /> $1,251.00—Funds from this grant will be used to purchase reusable party ware for each classroom at H. Haight
<br /> Elementary School.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 11-53 Grattan Elementary School,Life and Death with Decomposers,San Francisco,West County,
<br /> $3,000.00—Funds from this grant will be used to create based on the California Education and Environment Initiative
<br /> (EEI)a pre-assessment survey asking students what they know about decomposers,and develop a 5 week curriculum with
<br /> written/verbal quizzes.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 11-54 City of Dublin,Dublin Custodial Outreach Campaign,Dublin,East County,$2,750.00—City
<br /> of Dublin will use these funds to support its Commercial Recycling Program. Specifically,the City would like to develop
<br /> Spanish and English language commercial How-to-Guides for custodians and janitorial staff.
<br /> Mini-Grant#: 11-55 Dublin Unified School District(DUSD),Recycling in Dublin Schools: Beyond Elementary,
<br /> Dublin,East County,$2,010.67—Funds from this grant will be used to purchase additional containers for
<br /> schools/district office,and purchase food waste containers for Wells Middle School.
<br /> The total 2011 Expenditure Plan budget of$100,000 for Mini-grants was approved by the Board along with the
<br /> option to carry over all unexpended funds from previous grant years and expend if necessary. Funds from
<br /> previous years were expended,and a total of$103,280.70 in Mini-grants were awarded.
<br /> Project Grants
<br /> The Education Advisory Board awarded 10 Project grants to the following projects:
<br /> Project-Grant#: 11-27 Environmental Science Association,Commercial Organics Recycling On Track(CO-ROT),
<br /> San Francisco,West County,$7,500.00- The primary objective of this project is to have a follow up training tool that
<br /> any current and prospective commercial food scrap program participant in Alameda County could use to support their
<br /> program. Videos made with this grant will be readily available to other counties and jurisdictions throughout the Bay
<br /> Area and beyond.
<br /> Project-Grant#: 11-36 City of Albany,Greening Albany Schools—GAS,Albany,West County,$10,000.00-
<br /> Funding from this grant will provide on-site recycling technical assistance and education to Albany's school district to
<br /> foster greener schools,as well as promote new greening initiatives. Grant funding will enable the City to build upon
<br /> limited funding to develop a more comprehensive program to suit the district's expressed technical assistance needs.
<br /> Project-Grant#: 11-37 Supportive Housing Employment Collaborative,Recycling and Environmental Awareness
<br /> Program(REAP),San Francisco,West County,$10,000.00-Funds will be used to expand the highly successful
<br /> REAP program so that over the course of one year it will affect 7 new buildings and programs all over the city.Overall
<br /> REAP will result in the following annual outcomes: green education dissemination through peer-based model to a
<br /> minimum of 300 individuals and families living in supportive housing sites citywide,600 tons of recyclables and
<br /> compostable materials will be diverted from landfills,and 90 residents placed in short-term waste management positions
<br /> at fairs thought San Francisco.
<br /> Project-Grant#: 11-38 San Francisco Department of the Environment,Food to Flowers,San Francisco,West
<br /> County,$10,000.00-The goal of this project is to raise the diversion rate of 15 schools to 50%or greater by the end of
<br /> the 2011-2012 school year. SF Environment will accomplish this by: working with 25 schools to implement,sustain
<br /> and/or improve Food to Flowers! lunchroom composting recycling program;provide stipends to custodians,lunchroom
<br /> personnel,lead teachers,middle/high school student leadership teams and school administration;provide compostable
<br /> bags;provide commingled collection bins in classrooms and bathrooms;coordinate 60 waste diversion field trips;hold
<br /> annual awards ceremonies;and speak at meetings for students and school staff
