ATTACHMENT 1
THE CITY OF X47.1, p itIL
. C NT
August 22, 2007
r ASANTON C /ryM gN q0 F9
Regional Rail Steering Committee
Ashley Nguyen
MTC Staff Liaison
101 Eighth Street
Oakland, CA 94607
Subject: California High Speed Rail Alignment Alternatives
Dear Regional Rail Steering Committee:
Thank you for providing the opportunity to comment on the alignment alternatives for the California
High Speed Rail. The City of Pleasanton is encouraged by the High Speed Rail Program and the
potential congestion relief and track improvements it could provide to the Tri- Valley.
The City of Pleasanton is supportive of the plan to bring High Speed Rail through the Tri- Valley as
long as the Plan does not significantly impact the City of Pleasanton community. The design of a
high speed elevated track system through the 2 mile downtown portion of City of Pleasanton will
significantly impact the community both visually and audibly and this alignment is not supported by
the City of Pleasanton. We do riot support any alignment with elevated structures through
Pleasanton.
We encourage the Policy Advisory Committee to support the High Speed Rail option that uses the I-
580 and 1 -680 median. We understand there are design hurdles to overcome with this option, but the
reduction of impact to the Pleasanton Community along with the connectivity to the BART system
at the Dublin/ Pleasanton Station makes this the preferred alternative for Pleasanton.
We are also aware that there is some discussion of the alteration of alignment for BART, where the
Greenville Station would be elirninated and replace by a station at Stanley and Isabel. We are not
aware of any information that shows this is a better alignment than the current Greenville Station.
Pleasanton continues to support the BART plan for a Greenville Station.
Sivc- y,
N Ison Fialho
Cii} Manager
City of Pleasanton
Nlayor and City Council
Rob Wilson.
