Alternatives Analysis identified 31 alignment alternatives that covered over 400 miles of
potential track. The Alternatives Analysis recommends 19 alignment alternatives be
moved forward for a more detailed environmental analysis.
Within the Tri- Valley, 5 alignments were identified and included: 580/680, Downtown
(Union Pacific alignment and Southern Pacific alignment), SR 84 /Isabel and South
Pleasanton.
[NMI IN Dublin /Pleasanton
© BART
T
yy -7 © Isabe111 580
Downtown Ala
Pleasanton : \-
UPRR)
R.,naIA 610 S C
LIVERMORE
Downtown - `L 0
:s n Pleasanton Vat.ce Rued
• ISPRR; ISPRR)
PLEASANTON Downtown .. i ''
U•ermo e
It Vasco Ruxl •'
IUPRRI
1
N, Bil
SUNOt
1680/SR 84 ©• f
© I- 680151 RI
The Preliminary Alternatives Analysis eliminates 580/680, Union Pacific Downtcwn and
SR 84 /Isabel Alternatives. The City of Pleasanton has expressed support for the
580/680 option as it has the best connection to BART and minimizes the impact to the
neighborhoods and downtown Pleasanton by constructing in the freeway medians. The
reasons cited for the 580/680 alternative removal include design issues with BART to
Livermore, construction in close proximity to the freeways and least direct route.
Union Pacific Railroad has been resistant to sharing their right of way and as a result,
the Union Pacific Downtown route was removed. The SR 84 /Isabel alignment has
design and construction issues relating to the quarry operations.
The Preliminary Alternatives Analysis recommends carrying the Southern Pacific
Downtown and South Pleasanton alignments forward for further analysis. The Southern
Pacific Downtown route, shown in Red /Orange in the map above envisions ether an
elevated track or a tunnel through Downtown Pleasanton.
