Chairperson Loll was advised by Ms. Morris that the Chorus only puts on the one event each <br /> year because of the amount of time it takes to plan and coordinate such an event. She also <br /> advised that publicity was done through the website, flyers, emails, newspapers, word -of- <br /> mouth, etc. <br /> Chairperson Loll discussed the Commission's support of marketing and indicated that the <br /> Commission was looking for groups that are expanding and reaching out to the community. <br /> Commissioner Woodworth discussed with Ms. Morris the number of attendees at their last <br /> event, and Chairperson Loll provided information on the need for agencies to connect together <br /> on events. <br /> Livermore Valley Opera, Jim Schmitt & Stephanie Petermeyer — Opera LIVE! Access to the <br /> Arts <br /> Mr. Schmitt advised that funds were being requested to provide opera experiences directly to <br /> public middle school students by providing five (5) assemblies or performances. It is hoped <br /> that approximately 800 -1,000 students will participate in the program. The requested funds will <br /> be used to pay for singers, accompanists, and other personnel. Ms. Petermeyer discussed a <br /> recent visit made to a local middle school by an opera singer and the enthusiasm of the <br /> students and teacher. <br /> Commissioner McLane discussed with Mr. Schmitt and Ms. Petermeyer the expected length of <br /> the assemblies or performances and the benefits of each. Commissioner McLane was <br /> informed that there would be no charge to students for participating. <br /> Chairperson Loll discussed the possibility of Livermore Valley Opera seeking funding for this <br /> program from the School District. He also indicated that he was impressed by the fundraising <br /> done by this agency. Mr. Schmitt advised that funding requested would allow the agency to <br /> provide services to Pleasanton students. <br /> Commissioner Woodworth cornmented on the low amount requested for marketing purposes <br /> and the expressed thought of inviting students to attend. <br /> Chairperson Loll discussed the possibility of this agency collaborating with the PCAC Arts in <br /> the School Program. He also discussed the two applications received from Livermore Valley <br /> Opera and his understanding that there was a one - application limit. Ms. Andrade -Wax advised <br /> that agencies could submit applications for different projects. <br /> Pacific Chamber Symphony, Lawrence Kohl — Support of Professional Musician Instruction, <br /> Rental Charges and Clinics for Tri- Valley Youth Orchestra <br /> Mr. Kohl indicated that in the past his agency had not been allowed to submit applications for <br /> more than one project. The agency's current proposal is made up of two components, one <br /> being a performance of the Messiah and the other is coordinating with the City of Pleasanton <br /> for the Holiday Tree Lighting event. <br /> Chairperson Loll discussed with Mr. Kohl ways of recruiting for the chorus and marketing <br /> procedures. <br /> Civic Arts Commission <br /> March 14, 2011 <br /> Page 3 <br />
