Public Comment from the Audience regarding items not listed on the agenda. <br /> Ms. Andrade -Wax provided information about the recent CPRS Conference in Sacramento <br /> and the awards won by the City of Pleasanton for the Firehouse Arts Center and marketing of <br /> the Center. <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> 4. Presentation from Non - Profit Agencies and Recommendation to allocate <br /> Community Grant Funds for Fiscal Year 2011/12 <br /> Ms. Andrade -Wax and Mr. Berhel provided background information about the funding <br /> application process for community -based organizations providing human services, cultural /arts <br /> and programs promoting the City. They advised that a total of ten (10) applications were <br /> received in the Civic Arts Category, and suggested that the Commission review and discuss <br /> the grant applications and staff's recommendations for funding, make modifications as needed, <br /> and approve a funding recommendation that can be forwarded to the City Council. <br /> Chairperson Loll opened the Public Hearing for agency presentations. <br /> Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council (PCAC), David Wright — Poetry, Prose & Arts Festival, 11 <br /> Annual 2012 <br /> Mr. Wright advised that in prior years the Poetry, Prose & Arts Festival has been a joint event <br /> between PCAC and the City of Pleasanton. Now, due to changes in the economy, this event <br /> will not be a joint event, therefore, the PCAC is requesting funds for the event. He provided <br /> details about the Festival, which PCAC has been overseeing for ten (10) years. The 2012 <br /> Festival will include writer and would -be writers, Poetry contest, keynote address, workshops, <br /> award ceremony, and a banquet to be held at the Veterans Memorial Building <br /> Chairperson Loll discussed the past funding provided by the City for the Poetry, Prose & Arts <br /> Festivals. Ms. Andrade -Wax advised that it had been a co- sponsored program, but changes <br /> have been made making the process consistent for all groups. <br /> Harmony Fusion Chorus, Joanna Morris — Vaudeville Revisited <br /> Ms. Morris discussed the needs in Pleasanton and advised that Harmony Fusion Chorus is the <br /> only quartet of its kind in the area. She indicated that the Chorus encourages women to <br /> perform and helps with self- esteem by providing a unique style of music. Funds requested are <br /> for a Vaudeville Revisited show that will be presented in the fall, and the number of Pleasanton <br /> residents served will depend on the venue they are able to obtain. Additional details provided <br /> included information about budget deficit and ways they can raise funds. The funds requested <br /> will help the Chorus with costs involved for putting together the event. <br /> Commissioner McLane questioned Ms. Morris on what the Chorus would do to put on the <br /> event if funds were not recommended by the Commission.
