Tri- Valley Housing Opportunity Center, Milly Seibel — Community Stabilization Program <br /> The Commission was advised that the non - profit agency's services were being used to their <br /> maximum limit. The original focus of the agency was on training and preparing first -time <br /> homebuyers to purchase their first homes but other services are now taking a priority due to the <br /> changing economy and housing market. The focus at the TVHOC is now on foreclosure <br /> counseling and credit repair courses in addition to the traditional home buyer education courses. <br /> Additional information was provided about the TVHOC's services and the resources they provide <br /> to assist people to make educated decisions about housing. <br /> Easter Seals Bay Area, Jen Reeve — Community Inclusion Group <br /> Ms. Reeve provided information about their Kaleidoscope program and the services they provide <br /> to youth with disabilities. She noted that in these difficult economic times, families are struggling <br /> to pay for care for their disabled children. Federal funding is $7.25 per child, while the actual <br /> cost is over $19. A total of 40% of the youth served by the agency are from Pleasanton. <br /> Legal Assistance for Seniors, Carol Levisell and Maureen Carden — Legal Assistance for <br /> Seniors <br /> Ms. Levisell and Ms. Carden thanked the Commission for its past support and provided <br /> information about the basic needs the agency provides. They advocate for public benefits, <br /> provide a health law program, and assist with abuse issues. The Commission was provided <br /> information about problems seniors have with Social Security, 551, Guardianship, etc. <br /> Open Heart Kitchen, Linda McKeever — Senior Meals Program and Trinity Hot Meal Program <br /> Ms. McKeever thanked the Commission for its past support and provided information about the <br /> Senior Meals and Trinity Hot Meal programs. <br /> Chairperson Nagler discussed with Ms. McKeever the results from the Commission's <br /> Roundtable sessions held with various non - profit groups and the Commission's desire for them <br /> to collaborate on projects. He wondered why Open Heart Kitchen (OHK) and the other agencies <br /> had not put forward an application for a joint project, i.e. freezer /location. Ms. McKeever advised <br /> that the primary challenge was finding a suitable location for a freezer that could be used by a <br /> number of agencies. <br /> Chairperson Nagler suggested a plan be developed that could be a catalyst for getting other <br /> questions answered. Ms. McKeever indicated that OHK would be happy to work on a feasibility <br /> plan. Commissioner Rowland discussed the possibility of other agencies being involved, e.g., <br /> Tri - Valley Haven, John Knox Church, St. Vincent de Paul, etc. <br /> Child Care Links, Nicole Roman — Community Services Project <br /> Ms. Roman indicated that Child Care Links was hoping to work with Pleasanton youth providing <br /> resources and services for families and child care for 11 -12 year olds. <br /> Chairperson Nagler closed the Public Hearing and a break was taken from 6:10 — 6:40 <br /> p.m. <br /> Upon resuming the meeting, Chairperson Nagler suggested Commissioners consider how to <br /> emphasize allocation of the available dollars, using the three alternatives provided by staff. <br /> Human Services Commission Minutes <br /> March 2, 2011 <br /> Page 6 <br />
