Chairperson Nagler discussed the need for collaboration between health care providers and <br /> getting new providers into the City. He questioned whether funding for this project was being <br /> sought from other sources. Ms. Despotakis stated that other agencies are beneficial, but <br /> reminded everyone that ValleyCare Hospital is a not- for - profit organization. <br /> Axis Community Health, Sue Compton — Pre - Development for Capital Proiect <br /> Ms. Compton advised that Axis is getting approximately 400 new patients each month and is <br /> out - growing its present location and needs to look for a new facility. Funds requested would <br /> enable them to conduct pre - development activities (architect, financing, demographer, etc.) that <br /> would help them determine a site and location for a new facility. She advised that 29% of the <br /> patients served by Axis are Pleasanton residents. <br /> Commissioner Berger discussed with Ms. Compton the timeframe for this predevelopment <br /> study. Ms. Compton provided information about federal requirements and the Health Center's <br /> hope that the study could be done within the next 3 — 6 months. <br /> Axis Community Health, Sue Compton — Access to Health Care for Uninsured Low- Income <br /> Pleasanton Residents <br /> Ms. Compton provided information about their grant request to provide access to health care for <br /> uninsured low- income Pleasanton residents and the contract they have with the County. She <br /> advised that funds from the County have already been depleted, but they are required to provide <br /> care until June 30, 2011. <br /> Commissioner Rowland asked about information available from Axis for Spanish speaking <br /> residents. Ms. Compton advised that the agency provides information and publications that they <br /> obtain from the Kaiser Permanente library. <br /> The Arc of Alameda County, Richard Fitzmaurice and Rosie Amato — Tri - Valley Van Upgrade <br /> The Commission was thanked for the funds they allocated to The Arc of Alameda County last <br /> year and were advised that funds were now being requested so they could upgrade the van they <br /> use and make it reliable. The agency is collaborating with a local company for this upgrade. <br /> Ms. Amato advised that the van is used to transport users to their jobs at a local car wash and <br /> the Pleasanton Corporation Yard, and also so they can do their volunteer work in Livermore. <br /> The goal of the organization is to use a vehicle that is more appropriate for adults. <br /> Deaf Counseling Advocacy and Referral Agency (DCARA), Susan Gonzalez — Tri - Valley Deaf <br /> Services Program <br /> Ms. Gonzalez discussed the problems experienced by those in the deaf community and <br /> DCARA's goals to make sure that basic life needs and communication needs are met. She <br /> advised that emphasis is on collaboration to make sure that clients signing needs are provided, <br /> since use of an interpreter is not always best. Funding requested would enable them to provide <br /> needed service to Pleasanton residents. <br /> The Commission was informed that approximately 75 people would be served in the program <br /> and DCARA would provide educational workshops. Ms. Gonzalez also advised that DCARA <br /> would collaborate with other service organizations to provide services locally.
