r- In response to Commissioner Arkin's question whether Centex would build more zero
energy homes, Ms. Herder replied that the prototype home went on the market earlier in
the day. They would continue to test the zero energy homes, and added that they spent
between $30,000 and $40,000 in green building products, as well as energy efficient
products.

Commissioner Roberts thanked Ms. Herder for the invitation to see the zero net energy
home.

Chairperson Maas stated that she was surprised to see an article in the Pleasanton Weekly
regarding the Valley Community Church's plans to build a two story parking facility on
Pleasanton High School property. The church planned to spend $2.5 million, and stated
that it would not be more visible than a single story home.

Mr. Swift noted that it would show up as a project on school property, and that the
Planning Commission may have no review of the project. He added that they had been
searching for more parking for some time.

In response to Chairperson Maas' question regarding the left-turn lanes on Bernal, Mr.
Swift replied that there was the potential for three left turn lanes where two now exist.
The lanes will be striped for two left-turn lanes, and the center lane will be striped out.
He believed that would eliminate the lane change problems.

r-

Commissioner Arkin inquired about the status of the Santa Rita interchange on 580. Mr.
Swift replied that the East Dublin Plan required that the capacity of the overpass be
expanded. The overpass would be higher and longer than the old bridge.

Commissioner Sullivan agreed with the letter regarding the so-called Las Vegas sign.

Mr. Swift advised that Planning staff had already sent a letter to modify the sign so that it
would be more compatible with the architecture of the hotel. He noted that unfortunately,
the tenant and owner were not in agreement on this issue, and that the tenant owned the
sign, and the owner painted the building. He noted that it had been two weeks since the
30 day letter was sent.

8. MATTERS FOR COMMISSION'S REVIEW/ACTION

a. Future Planning Calendar

Mr. Swift advised that if the Commissioners wished for any items to be agendized for the
joint workshop with City Council, that they should advise Kathy Ferreira by Tuesday,
July 16.

Commissioner Kameny inquired about the item on page 2, Livermore Plans for Medium
Size Houses. Commissioner Roberts advised that she requested that item. She noted that

---

PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

July 10, 2002

Page 23
