,"" Mr. Thorpe, applicant, introduced his wife and his partners, David and Shawn Edgington.
He presented a summary of the project, and brought a sample of the stone to be used.

In response to Commissioner Roberts' question how the project could get closer to the
Leed certification, Mr. Thorpe replied that he would work with staff on this issue.

THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED

Commissioner Sullivan noted that the colors looked different than those used in the other
buildings in the complex.

Mr. Iserson noted that the building would look like the rendering, and if the Commission
would like them to match the other buildings, they would be able to work with the
applicant. Staff believed that it would be acceptable to be slightly different from the other
buildings.

Commissioner Arkin noted that he did not have a problem putting this building near a
massive building. He added that he did not care for the design, and believed it was dated.

Mr. Iserson noted that this design should blend with the other buildings in the complex,
which were designed in a similar manner.

r'

Commissioner Roberts agreed with staffs opinion, and because it was near a very bright
commercial area, she believed it would fit.

Commissioner Sullivan noted that his original impression was similar to Commissioner
Arkin's regarding the design, and remarked that it was getting old. He stated that he
would support the design if a condition was included that would require the same colors
and type of glass as the surrounding buildings.

THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS REOPENED.

Mr. Thorpe advised that the granite matched that used by the other buildings, and that the
same glass was also used. He emphasized that he expended considerable effort to be sure
that people liked it as much as he did.

THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED.

Commissioner Arkin stated that although staff concurred with this design, he could not
support this design.

Commissioner Roberts moved to approve PUD-80-2-17D as recommended by staff,
with the condition that the exterior materials (masonry and glass) match the
surrounding four-story buildings, and that the applicant continue to work to
improve the LEED score. Commissioner Sullivan seconded the motion.

r-

PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

June 26, 2002

Page 18
