<br />Commissioner Arkin stated that he would abstain on this issue, because, in general, it makes <br />r- sense to have the extension and he hasn't heard complaints from anyone in the community, but <br />he doesn't feel there is enough information from the area's residents to make a determination. <br /> <br />The Commission deadlocked on the issue as to whether to delete Transportation Policy #7 <br />regarding the extension of Rose Avenue to Valley Avenue. <br /> <br />Railroad A venue Extension <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />Commissioner Sullivan stated that he is not sure what this extension will help. He voiced <br />concern about taking out a number of structures in the Downtown area, noting that when you <br />open roads, you are asking for more cars. <br /> <br />Chairperson Maas stated that she would only consider the extension after exhausting all <br />alternatives and completing all the studies and reports. <br /> <br />Commissioner Roberts stated that she doesn't feel it will hurt to leave it in the plan, because all <br />the reports and studies that will be required, and it will provide a mobility option. <br /> <br />There was consensus to leave this item in the Plan, noting that all the reports and studies would <br />need to be prepared and considered prior to making a final determination regarding this issue. <br /> <br />".- <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission Recommendations <br /> <br />Bandstand Location <br />There was consensus to accept staff's recommendation. <br /> <br />Uses for Fire Station No.1 <br />There was consensus to accept staff's recommendation. <br /> <br />Parking within the Alameda County Transportation Corridor <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />Commissioner Harvey stated that he thinks there has got to be a better use for the corridor than <br />for a parking lot. He noted that there is a low-income housing shortage problem and he <br />understands that this use would not be feasible in this location because of gas line easements and <br />flood control measures. He advised that he does not want to encourage people to drive <br />automobiles to get downtown, but wants to encourage people to ride bikes or walk. He noted <br />that he would like to strengthen the language encouraging the PDA to partner with transportation <br />authorities to get more public transportation and mass transit to downtown. <br /> <br />Commissioner Roberts noted that the PDA and Downtown people need more parking. She <br />commented that people that can walk and ride their bikes often do.
