7. MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS

,,-

In response to an inquiry from Commissioner Sullivan, Ms. Kline advised that staff drafted a
letter regarding the Draft Compact for Sustainability which was submitted to Chairperson Maas.
She further advised that Chairperson Maas requested that the letter be forwarded to
Commissioner Sullivan for review and signature. It was noted that the letter would also be
provided to the City Council for information.

Commissioner Roberts commented on the wall that has been constructed at the rear of Mr.
Bozorgzad's property along the top of the cul-de-sac on San Carlos Way. She requested that
staff encourage that more landscaping be planted to screen the wall.

Chairperson Maas requested that the name, phone number, and e-mail address of the staff
member preparing a staff report be provided at the end of the report.

Ms. Kline reported that she checked with Tricia Maier regarding the development of the green
building ordinance, and was advised that it is our intent to use Alameda County Waste
Management experts to help staff draft a model ordinance. She noted that this may not be done
until the end of October and until that time staffis continuing to apply the direction given by the
Planning Commission concerning green building measures. Commissioner Roberts advised that
the ordinance is needed as part of the housing element update.

,,-

Chairperson Maas advised that she served on a panel today which interviewed three possible golf
course operators. She advised that there is a shortfall of $1.8 million dollars to develop the golf
course, noting that a status report on the golf course would be presented to the Council on
Tuesday.

Commissioner Kameny stated that he accepts the nomination of vice-chairperson that was made
during his absence at the last meeting.

8.
