<br />Commissioner Harvey asked whether Peridot could sublease some of the parking lot to another <br />r- adjacent business that has a parking shortage. Mr. Pavan advised that staff does not support this <br />concept, as parking must be provided on-site. Commissioner Harvey suggested that if the <br />business does not need 57 parking spaces, consideration be given to reducing the size of the <br />parking lot. <br /> <br />THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED <br /> <br />COMMENTS FROM THE APPLICANT <br /> <br />Patrick Pickerell, 5090 Independence Drive, President of Peridot, described the history of their <br />business and the products they manufacture. He noted that the flexible work schedule lends <br />itself to address any traffic issues. He commented that they consider themselves to be a very <br />"green" business, and the additional space will allow them to make their recycling program more <br />efficient. He stated that they intend to use the latest in installation techniques, the latest wiring <br />situations, and photovoltaic panels. He advised that they want to maintain a corporate image and <br />they have tried to represent in this building a unique approach and a building that will enhance <br />the surrounding area. <br /> <br />Commissioner Arkin stated that he cannot support the building design and proposed colors. Mr. <br />Pickerell encouraged Commissioner Arkin to visualize how the building will fit into the <br />surrounding area. <br /> <br />r- <br /> <br />In response to an inquiry from Chairperson Sullivan, Mr. Pickerell stated that they have proposed <br />the use of photovoltaic panels to the builder and the architect, but they are still researching the <br />information needed to make decisions about what they will need to install. He advised that they <br />are requesting that they be allowed to occupy the building prior to the installation of the system. <br /> <br />Debra Pickerell, 5090 Independence Drive, noted that the proposed colors are reflected in nature <br />outside. She asked the Planning Commission to open up their ideas. She stated that the colors <br />are an identity for their business. <br /> <br />Stephen Bourne, 3215 Calaveras, Milpitas CA 95035, engineering architect, described the <br />building design, building height, floor area ratio, circulation plan, and parking. He stated that <br />they would be pleased to reduce parking if the Planning Commission desires. He noted that if <br />the parking area is decreased, the landscaping could be expanded. He noted that the applicant <br />has agreed to change the Crape myrtle to Raywood ash. He stated that they have agreed to work <br />with staff regarding the design and placement of the signage. He requested that Condition # 15 <br />be modified to include P.G.&E.'s approval of the location of pad-mounted transformers. He <br />reviewed the Green Building design measures that will be included in the project. He advised <br />that they are committed to installing a photovoltaic system, but they would like to work with the <br />Planning Director on the schedule of the installation.
