Mr. Bourne stated that he feels this project would be a benefit to Pleasanton and will bring
r- remarkable standard to the Stanley Business Park area.

Commissioner Arkin stated that he is concerned about this site being a gateway to the City and
what people will see as they enter this area.

Keith Wardin, 2931 Liberty Drive, advised that he lives near the proposed project site. He noted
that the Planning Commission has received a copy of his remarks which are generally favorable
to the color palette. He stated that he feels the bold color scheme and landmark design of the
building will make a coherent visual statement at the entrance to our City about the kinds of
businesses we want in our community. He stated that he is in favor of the color palette as
proposed. He asked that the Planning Commission view this as a possibility of something that
could be beneficial visually, architecturally, and aesthetically for this part ofthe City.

Mark Gerton, 4058 Francisco Street, stated that the last condition of approval encourages the
developer to work with the City's Civic Arts Commission to provide public art. He commented
that from the statements made this evening, this building is art, and it is evoking the kinds of
reactions that art does.

THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED

r-

Commissioner Kameny questioned what colors might be used if the building colors are toned
down. Mr. Pavan advised that Mr. Cannon is in the audience and they could ask him to
comment on the colors.

THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS REOPENED

Larry Cannon, advised that when staff referred the project to him they expressed concerns about
the colors. He noted that from a positive standpoint, conceivably the colors go together. He
advised that the green and yellow are very cold colors, and they will wash out in the sunlight and
they will not look like the color board. He further advised that he would be uncomfortable with
the proposed colors. Mr. Cannon provided comments on the building design, noting that he had
recommended that the office portion of the building should have more definition than the
warehouse portion, more articulation is needed along the long walls, and some modifications
could be made to the window proportions.

Commissioner Arkin asked Mr. Cannon what residents would think of the design and colors of
the proposed building. Mr. Cannon stated that the majority of the population would have an
issue with the design and colors of the building.

THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED

Commissioner Maas stated that she would like to continue this item to allow the applicant to
make modifications to the color and design of the building.

-

PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

May 9, 2001

Page 12
