What are the <br /> barriers to accessing and using services? <br /> • What are the significant service gaps in the current system, both in terms of community <br /> needs and priority populations? <br /> • What are current exemplary programs and how do they employ culturally competent <br /> approaches? <br /> • Where do priority populations receive critical supports including substance abuse <br /> prevention and treatment, primary medical care, basic needs such as food, housing and <br /> employment? <br /> • What are the major institutional barriers to developing effective coordination of existing <br /> services? <br /> • What are the anticipated future needs in the community and how do current services <br /> address those? <br /> • What has been the impact of changing public and private funding priorities and the <br /> economic downturn on your organization? What opportunities exist given these <br /> changes? <br /> Task 2.2 Focused Discussion Groups <br /> We will conduct 15 focused discussion groups; each group will ideally include between 8 and 12 <br /> individuals. Similar to the key informant interviews, we hope to gain both broad perspectives <br /> and specific understanding of service needs and capacities. Focus groups will be conducted <br /> throughout the three cities to ensure geographic representation and, if needed, on weekends <br /> or evenings. They will be conducted in areas where target populations normally congregate, <br /> such as Head Start programs, senior centers, drop -in centers or workplaces.
