Commissioner Roby discussed with Ms. Compton the reasons for the delay on this project. She <br /> advised that approval is nearing completion, but that a $24,000 sewer fee was being levied on <br /> the project. <br /> Ms. Compton advised that the second project she was reporting on was a program to provide <br /> health care access for the uninsured. The goal of the program was to provide uninsured and <br /> low- income Pleasanton residents with access to medical care by: 1) determining eligibility for <br /> publicly supported health programs, 2) assisting families to complete enrollment applications, 3) <br /> assist families to maintain enrollment at their re- enrollment times, 4) schedule health care <br /> services, and 5) provide follow -up to make certain that services were received. <br /> Ms. Compton advised that the goal of the program was to enroll 206 low- income and uninsured <br /> Pleasanton residents in publicly supported health care programs. The program achieved 172% <br /> of its goal and was able to enroll 355 residents in health care plans. <br /> Commissioner Rowland indicated that she was impressed with the achievements Axis was able <br /> to accomplish with the funding for this program. Ms. Compton advised that additional support for <br /> the program was also received from the City of Livermore and Alta Bates Foundation. <br /> Chairperson Nagler discussed the fact that the funded service being provided by Axis was <br /> similar to one that had been funded with City Grant funds. He felt this was an area that the <br /> Commission could consider leveraging of funds in order to provide maximum assistance. <br /> Commissioner Wilson questioned whether any of the 355 residents served in the program were <br /> provided mental health service. Ms. Compton provided details of the covered services. <br /> Bay Area Community Services /Creative Living Services (Jamie Amanza) — informed the <br /> Commission that BACS either met or exceeded goals. Funds allowed for services to be <br /> provided to 73 adults with psychiatric disabilities. The Valley Creative Living Center provides <br /> day rehabilitation services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness. A total of 25 of the <br /> individuals served were Pleasanton residents. BACS partnered with Alameda County <br /> Vocational Program for this program to provide the necessary services. Ms. Amanza discussed <br /> the strong collaboration and partnership that BAGS has with other agencies. <br /> Community Resources for Independent Living (CRIL) /Housing Services for Disabled Persons <br /> (John Quinn) — thanked the Commission for the funding that was allocated to CRIL which <br /> allowed them to work with 35 Pleasanton residents with disabilities and allowed the residents to <br /> meet their housing and independent living goals and increase their personal self- sufficiency. <br /> CRIL was able to meet all of the goals. Mr. Quinn advised that two bus loads of individuals <br /> recently attended a rally in Sacramento to advocate for support services for those with <br /> disabilities who are served by CRIL and other agencies. <br /> Mr. Quinn gave additional information about the services /workshops provided by CRIL and its <br /> collaboration with other agencies. <br /> Human Services Commission Minutes <br /> August 18, 2010 <br /> Page 3 <br />
