Chairperson Kennedy hoped that the YMCA was working on a solution for the Friendship Center
program.
Child Care Links, Melissa Spann /Carol Thompson wanted to thank staff and the Commission
for past funding and hoped they would be considered favorably for their funding request. The
agency looks forward to a continued partnership with the City of Pleasanton.
Chairperson Kennedy closed the meeting for agency presentations at 5:08 p.m.
Mr. Erickson informed the Commission that two (2) projects that were allocated funds during the
prior funding cycle, Axis Community Health ($138,000) and LARPD /Friendship Circle ($25,000)
have not expended all of the funds allocated. Staff anticipates that the next phase of the large
Axis project will begin during the next several months and the funds will be expended, and
recommends that the LARPD /Friendship Circle funds be reallocated to offset the request by
YMCA for funds to renovate the adult day care facility in Dublin.
Commissioner Nagler thanked staff for all their hard work and the information that had been
provided to Commissioners to help them make their recommendations. He suggested members
of the Commission review the staff funding recommendations and discuss any differences they
wished to make.
Chairperson Kennedy agreed with Commissioner Nagler's comments and felt it would be a good
starting point for the deliberations. She also reminded Commissioners that some of the items
were to be reviewed by the Housing Commission.
Ms. Yurchak suggested Commissioners review each application in order, as outlined on
Attachment 1, discuss the funding request, and then make their recommendation.
Commissioners agreed.
App. #1001 Axis Community Health Medical Care for Low Income Pleasanton Residents
Requested: $40,000 Recommended: $20,000
Commissioners agreed that Axis does great work, but were comfortable with staff's
recommendation.
App. #1002 Axis Community Health Teleminder for Healthcare Project
Requested: $6,000 Recommended: $6,000
App. #1003 Open Heart Kitchen Senior Meal program
Requested: $20,000 Recommended: $15,000
Commissioner Nagler discussed with Mr. Erickson how staff made their recommendation for this
project. Mr. Erickson felt it fit with other things that take place at Ridge View Commons. He felt
Open Heart Kitchen had done a great job and made some good improvements. He noted that
the program is open to all Pleasanton seniors.
Human Services Commission Minutes
March 3, 2010
Page 5
