Ms. Yurchak advised that if the Commission was comfortable with the information they had <br /> received that they could consider this application when they deliberate and make <br /> recommendations. <br /> Commissioner Nagler provided information about the funding process and how this Commission <br /> is responsible for making recommendations to the City Council. Ms. Thompson informed the <br /> Commission that she had been surprised to learn from staff that her request had been <br /> considered incomplete and hoped that the Commission would consider the request when <br /> making its recommendations. Mr. Erickson noted that agencies were informed during the two <br /> (2) workshops that staff would not contact agencies if applications were received incomplete. <br /> Tri- Valley Haven, Shiloh DV Shelter Handicap Ramps and Parking, Anne King/Vicki Thompson <br /> thanked the Commission for its past support and advised that funds requested would allow Tri <br /> Valley Haven to construct two (2) handicap ramps at the entrance to the shelter, and also fill <br /> cracks, replace uneven surfaces, and seal the parking lot and playground. <br /> Tri Valley Housing Opportunity Center, Tri Valley Housing Opportunity Center Renovation, <br /> Jacqueline Rickman advised that the agency recently purchased a historic building in <br /> Livermore and was requesting funding so they could renovate it. The renovation includes <br /> downstairs office space that is occupied by TVHOC, and updating of a single low- income <br /> residential unit upstairs above the office. Funding for this project is also being requested from <br /> the City of Livermore. TVHOC is hoping to become a self- sustaining organization, which will <br /> provide housing counseling, volunteer tax preparation, and other supportive services to Tri <br /> Valley households. <br /> Commissioner Rowland thanked TVHOC for thinking outside the box with a unique approach to <br /> its funding request, and Commissioner Nagler commented on this being a great program and a <br /> great way to use public funds. <br /> Tri Valley YMCA, Adult Day Care Program Building Renovation, Kelly O'Lague Dulka advised <br /> that the YMCA is working with the Tri Valley Adult Program and is in the process of opening an <br /> adult day care facility for frail elders at the Nielsen School site in Dublin. The building requires <br /> extensive renovation of the bathroom and stage areas. The funding requested will allow for <br /> renovation of the stage area and adding a ramp to allow access to this area. The bathroom <br /> renovations will be completed by the Dublin School District. Ms. Dulka advised that the YMCA is <br /> partnering with other groups to help achieve this project. <br /> Commissioner Rowland advised that this Commission has kept current on the progress of the <br /> adult day care program and the connection between the Friendship Center and the YMCA. Ms. <br /> Dulka noted that the Friendship Center continues to be involved and supports the program <br /> through fundraising efforts. <br /> Commissioner Lambert encouraged Ms. Dulka to attend meetings of the Youth Master Plan <br /> Implementation Committee to discuss ways the YMCA could partner with other organizations. <br /> Human Services Commission Minutes <br /> March 3, 2010 <br /> Page 4 <br />
