BACKGROUND <br /> The Committee on Energy the Environment was appointed by Council in May of <br /> 2009 to further enhance the City's commitment to the environment. The City of <br /> Pleasanton established the committee to advise the City Council on energy and <br /> environment related issues, strategies, planning, protections and opportunities for <br /> conservation. The committee has established five key goals to define their work plan for <br /> the next two year period: <br /> Act as a liaison and advocacy for the Community of Pleasanton <br /> Establish working relationships with city government entities and surrounding <br /> communities E E Committees <br /> Advise City Staff on the development of a climate action plan that supports the <br /> City's General Plan <br /> Develop and recommend energy and environmental policies <br /> Establish a community outreach and education program on energy and <br /> environmental programs in Pleasanton <br /> The committee has made steady progress over the past year by establishing sub <br /> committees that have participated in many of the key goals identified. Some examples <br /> are: <br /> The Outreach subcommittee: <br /> Participated in 4 health energy fairs <br /> Established a speakers series that starts in May 2010 with the first lecture at the <br /> Pleasanton Senior Center <br /> Established energy tip of the week in the Pleasanton Weekly <br /> Developed a portable informational booth and program for health and energy fair <br /> use <br /> The Climate Action Plan Subcommittee: <br /> Assisted staff with the scope of work for the climate action plan <br /> Participated in the interview process for the climate action plan consultant <br /> selection <br /> The Policy Advisory Subcommittee has: <br /> Recommended a development of a green purchasing policy and is participating <br /> in its development <br /> Is advising staff on numerous policy recommendations, (i.e. plastic bags, foam <br /> containers, smart water sprinklers) <br /> The main focus has also been the development and advice on a comprehensive Energy <br /> Efficiency strategy that will be used as part of the climate action plan, (See attachment <br /> A). The major focus for the committee in the remainder of 2010 will be to participate in <br /> the climate action plan development and work shop outreach to the community. <br /> Page 2 of 6 <br />
