1080 <br />Action on the communications were then as follows: <br />April 14th - -Mr. George E. Tooney. The Clerk was advised to write fir. Tooney that `ft <br />while no work was being contemplated by the municipality as outlined <br />in his letter, nevertheless if anything should develop and his services <br />should be required that the matter would be taken up with him. <br />April 27th -- California Sewage Works Association.. The Mayor expressed himself as <br />feeling that this meeting at Yosemite valley should be attended: Coundil- <br />ma n Olesen recommended that Mr. Madsen of the Sewer Department should <br />attend if possible. Remarks were then solicited bf Councilman Idadsen. <br />Council an Madsen responded to the effect that he would like to attend <br />becauselassistance gained at previous meetings and he also recommended <br />that the municipality join the association, the dues of which were only <br />X2.00 a year. ke mentioned that much good could 'be derived by being <br />an active member of the association and while he had spoken of the ratter <br />before; no action had been taken. Councilman Amaral also recommended that <br />Councilman Madsen attend the meeting and also that the munici:pfality join <br />the association. On motion of Councilman Olesen, seconded 'by Councilman <br />Amaral, and on the favorable vote of Councilman Olesen, Amaral and Orloff <br />it was voted to send Councilman INIadsen to the conference for the two day <br />session and for the municipality to pay his expenses as well as to-join <br />the association. The Clerk was instructed to draw a warrant for 4?"2.00. <br />payable to the California Sewage Works Association and to advise the <br />association of its action both as regards the joining of the association <br />and having Councilman Madsen at the conference. <br />May 1st- -State Industrial Accident Commission. Filed <br />May 4th -- Pleasanton Council No. 15., I.D.E.S. The permission to hold the Holy Ghost <br />Celebration on May 26, and 27th was granted, and the Clerk was instructed <br />to advise the Council to that d.ffect and to the effect that the customar y <br />licenses would 'be expected to be paid. <br />lylay 5th -- League of California Municipalities. Filed. <br />May 7th -- Pleasanton Pire Department. Councilman Madsen -recommended to the Council <br />that the recommendation of the Pleasanton Fire Dena rtment that Air. C. <br />Letham be appointed Fire Chief be accepted. Councilman If suggested <br />that the matter be laid over as Councilman Apperson was absent from the <br />meeting and since the Fire Department was under his jurisdiction tint he <br />shouldreonsulted. Councilman Madsen then explained why he had recommended <br />that 14 =r. Letham 'be appointed. Mayor Orloff then questioned Attorney <br />Nilson with regards to the appointments as applying to the appointment <br />of Fire Chief etc. which Mr. Nilson explained. Councilman Amaral then <br />discussed the Council's action in the past as regards the appointing of <br />a fire chief. On motion of Councilman Madsen, seconded by Councilman <br />Amaral and with the Councilmen present in favor of same, Mr. C. Letham <br />was appointed. Fire Chief and Ibir. John J. Amaral, assistant fire chief. <br />May 7th - -Peer Christesen. The application of Mr. Christesen for Building Inspector <br />was accepted on motion of Councilman Ialadsen seconded by Councilman Orloff <br />and with all present in favor of same. <br />blay 7th -- Charles Hammond. - Some discussion followed with regards to the sign being <br />painted which all felt should be attended too -but the matter was laid over <br />because the Board di8liked granting I,,'ir. Hammond a license on account of <br />this work, rather preferring that since i,ir. Hammond had been doing <br />work in the community hat he ?ay his license and then solicite the <br />painting of the sign the Council. The matter was laid over for the <br />next meeting of the Council. <br />May 7th- -Miss Dorothy Davis. The Clerk was instructed to write Miss Davis and to <br />thank her for the.-.invitation. <br />Dr. Richard Heinz, City Health Officer,.was present and wma asked to address <br />the Council. !'1e spoke with regards to the city having a contract with the County <br />of Alameda for the health work of the municipality. He suggested that the <br />municipality cooperate with the county in its health program and that some sort <br />of a contract be accepted. I:rayor Orloff strongly advised that the matter be <br />taken under advisement since it had been brought up last spring and nothing <br />had been done. Councilman Ivladsen.questioned Dr. Heinz as regards whether or <br />not the municipality would "lose its ideniity'if such a contract was entered into <br />and the county assuming control of health work within the municipality. Dr. Heinz <br />then explained to Mr. It2adsen that certain advantages which he felt would be gained <br />joining and also what might be offered by the county in case of epidemic etc. <br />e matter was ordered looked into and laid over to a future meeting for further <br />discussion. <br />Mayor Orloff spoke with regards to the temporary appointments made at the <br />April 16th meeting a4d advised that these appointments were confirmed at this <br />time. <br />The Clerk took up the matter of the tr�nsfe-r of money from the General Funi <br />to the MunicipalFund and the 1929 1l�Iunicipal Fund at the April 16th meeting in order <br />to complete what was due on bonds and interest as of 1,day 1, 1934 and amounting to <br />$665.41. Councilman Madsen suggested that the money be left in the funds even <br />though the funds were able to pay back same to the general fund, because he thouEht <br />at this time that the municipality could afford to allow the money to be spent <br />as it had been. Mayor Orloff felt that since the-funds were in a position to <br />repay the money th,:t it should go back to the General Fund. On motion of Councilman <br />
