Following his remarks the Council decided <br />that letters should be sent to the United States Senator, Hirlim Johnson <br />and Congressman Albert Carter in which complaints would be registered <br />as to what had taken place. The Clerk was instructed to prepare these <br />letters at once and to send them by air mail.to our representatives at <br />Washington, D.C. <br />January 30th -- California State Automobile Association. Discussion followed among <br />the Council members with regards to these signs and i.t was agreed that the <br />reflector type of sign would be the most desirable. The cost of same being. $10. 00. <br />It was ordered that the Clerk should order six of these signs and,when <br />the representatives of the California Automobile Association came to <br />Pleasanton that they were to contact Ivir. Garatti who would arrange for <br />the proper placing of these signs. Councilman.Idadsen discussed with the <br />Council the matter of putting in other signs of this type whenever the <br />present ones needed replacing, as he pointed out the new signs were <br />better traffic aids. The Council decided to put in the six new signs <br />and at a later date to take up the suggestions made by Mr. Madsen. <br />February.2nd- -Lee H. Newbert of the Pacific Gas & Electric Co:. Filed.. <br />Councilman It2adsen of the Public Utilities Committee took up the matter <br />of plowing the ground on the hill above LcKinley Park recommending that if <br />same was done at an early date it would destroy the grass and also beiw a <br />protection against fire later on -which would naturally affect the growing trees. <br />There was no objection to this work being done. Mr. Madsen also reported that <br />ItZr. Leonard Sinclair had been taken to the Highland Hospital for an indefinite <br />time and that Fred Madsen had been selected to assist Ivir. Sinclair AV <br />Councilman Orloff'of the Laws and Judiciary Committee had'nothing to report. <br />Councilman Garatti of the Street and Building Comma -ttee reported that the <br />lights ordered changed had been taken care of during past weeks. He also brought <br />out that the.town grader which had not been used the last couple of years could be <br />used at the present time if it were in proper shape. He pointed out that it <br />needed repairing and that he did not know what do do about.it and whether or not <br />the Council was willing that the grader should be put in prosper shape. Mr. Rodriques <br />was called upon and he reported that in all probability that at least ft .00 would <br />be necessary to .fix up the grader and at the same time he mentioned what work <br />would be done if. the grader was in shape.. Ivor. Madsen recommended that the work <br />be undertaken and the grader be. repaired. Mr. Orloff felt if it was necessary <br />that the equipment should be looked after and accordingly IuIr. Garatti was ordered <br />to proceed with the matter. <br />The following resolutions were then presented: <br />Resolution No. 1490 -- Authorizing the payment of the salaries of the municipal <br />officers for the month of January and amounting to 0,745.00. <br />Resolution Ito. 1491 - -A resolution in connection with all projects to the Civil <br />Works Administration by the Town of Pleasanton' "including all projects hereto -fore <br />and that may hereafter be approved by the Administration and placing the . <br />responsibility and all liability that may arise in connection with same on the <br />Town of Pleasanton. "Discussion followed on this resolution with Clerk Schween <br />and Attorney Nilson explaining the Town's responsibility with regards to <br />liability to property owners and the necessity of having an agreement with <br />the property owners in connection with the.work carried on. Mr. Nilson also <br />advised that he had been able to ascertain that any workmen's compensation <br />necessary viould be taken care of by the Administration. <br />Action on these resolutions was then taken as.follows: <br />Resolution No. 1490 -- Adopted on motion of Councilman Garatti seconded by Councilman <br />Orloff and with all present voting in favor of same excepting Councilman Madsen <br />who voted .fa- rorably on all excepting the salary of the Fire Chief in which he voted <br />nN0 n - <br />Resolution No. 1491 -- Adopted on,motion of Councilman Madsen seconded by Councilman <br />Orloff and with all present voting in favor of same. <br />Clerk Schween took up the matter of renewing the contract with the <br />Burroughs Adding Machine Company for 1934, whereby the said company was to keep <br />the machine in repairs for 0.00. There were no objections to same and the Clerk <br />was ordered to enter into the contract. The Clerk also reported on the work <br />done by the,Southern Pacific Company on its crossings in Pleasanton and its <br />intentions to further carry on the work. The Clerk Also took up the matter <br />of cancelling three' water bills;iDr. Gardener,$7.00, C. T. Hamer ,$4.50, and Mrs. <br />Netti Sutherland, $8.50. The latter being due from tenants who vacated the <br />house some months ago. Reasons for cancelling these bills were given by the <br />Clerk and discussed by the Council. Following the discussion -on mo.tion of <br />Councilman Madsen seconded by Councilman Orloff and with all the councilmembers <br />present voting in favor of same, these bills amounting to $20.00 were cAncelled. <br />Councilman Madsen spoke on .heating conditions in the jail and made <br />certain recommendations with regards to.improving conditions there.
