1®67 <br />Mr. Ulianowas present at the meeting asked whether it would be possible <br />for extending the time for closing the dance on February 17th from one o'clock <br />to three-o'clock. Mr. Orloff, when the matter was referred to him, explained <br />that many attending the dance would be late in arriving and that the time of <br />closing the dance would depend upon how the dancers conducted themselves. <br />James firimingham, John Amaral and Fred Snarey were present at the meeting <br />and when called upon for a few remarks assured the Council that they had just <br />drop in to watch the proceedings. <br />There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 9:50 o'clock <br />to meet in regular session on Monday evening, March 5A 1934 at 7:30 o'clock. <br />Approved: <br />0 <br />Mayor <br />er <br />Pleasanton, California, February 26, 1934. <br />The Town Council of the Town of Pleasanton was called to order in special <br />session at 7:30 o'clock on the above written with Mayor A. B. Pickard presiding. <br />Present at roll call were Councilmen Madsen, Apperson, Orloff,.Garatti mad <br />Pickard. <br />. The Clerk presented a letter from Dr. F. W. Black, medical director of <br />the Alameda County Institutions Commission addressed to Mayor A. B. Pikcard <br />as of February 13th. The letter was to advise the Council that in the future <br />where "Alameda County would be required to supply hospital care for prisoners <br />serving time or awaiting trial in city jail but not under the auspices <br />of the county ", that the respective municipalities for whom the prisoners <br />were•.being cared for were to be charged for at the rate of $6.50 per day <br />in general wards or X7.50 in psychopathic ward. Also information to the affect <br />that on February 8, 1934 the name of the "Highland Hospital" was changed to "Alameda <br />County Hospital' and so called "Highland Emergency Hospital" is officially <br />changed to "Alameda County Emergency Hospital ". <br />The Clerk also presented •a letter from G. W. Weldon, ' Mayor of San Leandro <br />inviting the members of the City Council to a dinner at San Leandro on Friday <br />evening, March.2nd, -`at which time a joint meeting of the East Bay and Penisula <br />Divisions of the League of California Municipalites would be held. The Mayor <br />asked those 'that who could conveniently do so to attend this dinner. The reservations <br />for same to be made through the City Clerk. The Clerk was instructed to answer <br />both the letters of Dr. Black and Mr. Weldon. <br />Councilman Madsen again took up the matter of the municipality joining the <br />League of California Municipalities pointing out that much good could be derived <br />from th Town of Pleasanton being actively interested in the League through � <br />members There was no action taken. <br />Councilman Garatti presented the agreement for street and highway lighting <br />supplied from overhead lines of the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. This contract <br />had been previously presented to the City Council and referred to Mr. Garatti <br />for approval. Mr. Garatti recommended that the Mayor sign the agreement and <br />that same be returned to the Pacific Gas & Electric Company. After a short <br />discussion of the contract on motion of Councilman Garatti seconded by Councilman <br />Apperson and with all Councilmen in favor of same the agreement was ordered signed. <br />' At the request of Mayor Pickard, Clerk Schween reviewed a recent visit <br />which he and the Mayor had made to Oakland to the headquarters of the CWA <br />and the conversation that had taken place with Mr. Jackson -of the Administration. <br />Also he discussed the matter of presenting projects in the future and what was <br />expected-by the Oakland committee. He concluded his remarks by mentioning a <br />visit that had been made the same day by himself and 1dr. Pickard to the office of <br />the County Surveyor and whfA* information was secured and help solicited with <br />regards to checking the project regarding the wall along the Arroyo Del Valle <br />Creek on Divisi9�n Street. At the conclusion of his remarks, Mr. Schween read some <br />articles from ` the Western City', the official publication of the League of California <br />Municipalities which Mayor Pickard presented. A general discussion among the <br />Councilmembers followed. It was generally felt that if the project was to be <br />resubmitted that an effort should be made to secure free gravel from the property <br />owners concerned, that Mr. Hamilton, the County Surveyor, be asked to allow Mr. <br />Schreiber of his office to draft plans and specifications for whichhe (Mr. Schreiber) <br />should be paid by the Town of Pleasanton and that a meeting should be held at an <br />
