As a downtown property owner and active PDA member (including current position on the PDA board) I have seen how unpredictability and long delays deter good businesses from seriously considering locating here. For quite some time now, the PDA has worked with the City with the ultimate goal of streamlining the permitting process and making it more customer oriented by providing uniform and predictable standards. The changes to the code proposed in item Sb are part of the changes that have been suggested in attaining those goals should by all analyses lead business to be more successful and attract other to help build the local economy. It is a coincidence that item 6a is on the same agenda, but speaks to a similar point the uniform standards for all businesses to play by. I also support the extension of Barone's hours to bring more nighttime vitality to downtown. I have heard many people express surprise and disappointment in the lack of restaurant and entertainment venues available in late evening. Most end up going to nearby cities and have established patterns and habits for socializing that don't include downtown Pleasanton. We need to help change this to bring their business back. It is never a good thing when residents cannot create local revenue this in essence should be seen as part of Pleasanton's Shop Local campaign.
