LIGHTING <br /> <br />Lighting levels should be such as to further goals <br />of user safety. <br /> <br />At and near intersections with streets. the Arroyo <br />del Valle, and parks. lighting should be installed to <br />evenly illuminate the area of the path at an average <br />level of 1 footcandle at the ground. Lighting levels <br />on the path away from these areas should be accept- <br />able at lower levels of illumination. <br /> <br />Parking lot lighting should be installed to evenly <br />illuminate the area of the parking paving at an aver- <br />age level of 1 footcandle minimum at the ground. <br /> <br />At least one srreedight-type electrolier should be <br />provided in or near each picnic area. <br /> <br />Each art sculpture should be lighted. Lighting <br />may. but need not be. part of the sculpture. <br /> <br />. PLANTING <br /> <br />Deciduous shade trees should be provided in all <br />tree-planting islands between parking stalls (mini- <br />mum one tree-planting island evety 5 stalls). <br /> <br />Shade trees should be provided in all <br />planting/buffer areas adjacent to trails and parking <br />areas at an average max. spacing of 1 - 4 trees per <br />100 sq. ft. <br /> <br />Minimum tree spacing in lawn or mowed <br />ground cover areas should be 12 ft. a.c.. to allow <br />for maintenance with large mowers. <br /> <br />Trees should be located a minimum of 3 ft. from <br />the trail. <br /> <br />REGIONAL TRAIL CORRIDOR DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS <br />36 <br />
